Mangalore’s Ist Private FM Channel: Radio Mirchi 98.3

Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM has become the Ist private FM channel to be launched in Mangalore. It was launched today, Friday, November 23, 2007 at 5 PM. With this Radio Mirchi has setup its second FM station in the state of Karnataka. Till now the only FM channel active in Mangalore was the state owned Akashavani FM. Radio Mirchi which already has a presence in Bangalore is famous for its Kanglish lingo, making it a hit among college goers. One would like to see how in Mangalore it makes an impact. On Monday, November 26, 2007, one more FM channel Radio Big 92.7 FM is going to be launched in Mangalore. This will be the third one for Radio Big in Karnataka which already has stations in Bangalore and Mysore. Incidently Radio Big has been rated No.1 FM channel in Bangalore in a recently conducted survey. Two more FM channels are going to be launched by the end of this month in Mangalore; this will take the count of private FM stations to four in the city.

Hope the private operators know the language diversity in cosmopolitan Mangalore with Tulu, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam languages widely spoken here, it would be appropriate to have right mixture of the popular languages in their programs. And I would definitely like to see the entry of private FM channels to promote the local artists, folklore and the modest Tulu and Konkani Cinema by playing the songs from the same.

Regards,
Raveesh

I don't agree with this because the Radio Mirchi now airs only Kannada songs(majority not so popular). In addition, RJs are very bad.

I hope RJs of Mangalore Radio Mirchi will be good.

I hate Radio Mirchi because the station remixes beginning of every famous song with Radio Mirchi word. I feel like literally blasting my '6.40 pm cab driver' when he tunes to this station forcefully.
