Many of us in India, might have noticed the new currency symbol in Rs in 1 rupee and 2 rupee coins. Have you noticed the change in our currency notes? I found a 10 rupee note incorporating the new rupee symbol.

Not much change if you compare the old currency note given below.

I thought of giving new dimension to the Learn Tulu Online Series in this blog. You will now be able to hear and learn Tulu in raveeshkumar.com. Introducing from this post is the audio guide which will help in getting the pronunciations right in Tulu and Kannada. I am beginning from the first post in Learn Tulu Online series, which is Commonly Used Phrases. Below is the audio for the same. Ferry Ride from Holebaagilu to Sigandur

On Wednesday, 5th October 2011, me and Manju went to Sigandur taking a day off from Ninasam Culture Course 2011 at Heggodu. Decision to visit Sigandur instead of Ikkeri or Keladi (which were historical places) was mainly because of the mode of transport from Holebaagilu to Sigandur, a ferry!

Heggodu to Holebaagilu : We boarded a bus towards Sagara from Heggodu in the morning and got down at a stop after being said that one can catch the bus to Sigandur there instead of going to Sagara. After few inquiries we came to know that there were only few buses to Sigandur and when the bus finally arrived, it was overcrowded. We thought of backing out on the plan but finally succumbed to our adventure instincts and boarded the bus. There was not even an inch to keep our feet anywhere. In these tough times, comic relief was provided by the conductor of the bus entertaining the crowd! I also noticed the usage of a different Kannada term for 'move inside' the bus unlike jarugi used in Bangalore. People from in this region of Malnad use the term daati. Kannadigas generally use this term to mean 'cross' - like cross the road, cross the river. I thought this usage might have been because people here cross rivers more often! :)

Talking of hardships, this was only the beginning; more were to come later! Somehow managing unprecedented rush in the bus, we reached some 2-3 kms away from Holebaagilu, place where one needs to board the ferry. Why not at Holebaagilu? Beacause of traffic jam. But in this remote town of Malnad, how come? It was a jam created by Bangaloreans for the most part. How? - It was Dasara season and that day, it was Mahanavami. We then also noticed the bus being decorated with flowers - it was the day of Ayudha Pooja too and huge number of people had come from all over Karnataka and particularly from Bangalore(as it was evident from the registration numbers of vehicles parked) to visit Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple. Analyzing the situation the bus conductor started giving back some part of the ticket money as the passengers now would not be able to reach Sigandur via this bus! Me and Manju got down from the bus and walked till Holebaagilu and waited for the ferry.

Ferry or Launch Ride : When the ferry arrived, people were allowed to board first and then the vehicles - cars, bikes and vans. The first thing we did boarding the ferry was securing a strategic place to sit so that we can enjoy the ride watching the exquisite natural surroundings. Sitting on the edge of the ferry seemed perfect to view the nature in our travel.Our ticket for this travel cost mere Rs.1 per person! Because it was operated by Govt. of Karnataka. Sitting on the edge of the ferry with legs dropped we could see the water flow underneath our feet - wonderful. Kids on board were too excited and posed for photos whenever I took the camera out! We could also watch another ferry carrying the bus and other vehicles too. Other fantastic view - was of the vegetation in the submerged river, clear sky and the hills nearby in one shot!

Sigandur by Road : Once we reached the other end of the Sharavati river, it was about 1 30 pm and we were extremely hungry. There are few small hotels here. Lemon rice, chutney and pakoda - a combination which I felt like one of the best meals I had in recent times. From here, there are private players transporting passengers to Sigandur Temple and their mode of transport - jeep and car. Needless to say, they operate only after the vehicle is fully occupied or rather tightly packed with passengers.

Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple : Since it was an auspicious day, huge number of devotees were visiting the temple. I had wait for a long time to get a darshana of the goddess as people were sent in batches to view the idol of Chowdeshwari.

Areca nut Palms, Return Journey and Meditation! : After the visit to the temple, me and Manju went exploring the nearby estate filled with areca nut palms. We went further to find a green plain ground; watching the clouds in a clear sky lying in the ground is what we did to pass time there! Coming back from there, we returned back to the river bank this time in a jeep. In the return journey, we were not so lucky as we did not get the strategic place to sit in the ferry. Once we reached Holebaagilu, Manju had an idea. To sit by the river without talking as a form of meditation. He did so and I did too with a twist, having a book in hand to read! After half an hour or so we were on our way back to Sagara and then to Heggodu ending a wonderful day.

Trip to Jog Falls, Sagara, Karnataka

A day before Ninasam Culture Workshop 2011, I visited Jog Falls. 1st October 2011 seemed to be the perfect day to visit as there was plenty of water and enough of water to allow us to get down to the bottom of the falls.

First Reaction : Coming from Bangalore, we got down at Sagara, which is 10 km from India's 2nd highest plunge falls. Without spending much time in Sagara, we boarded a local transport bus heading towards Jog. My first impression after reaching the Jog was 'hey, it does not look that high or as I saw in the photos!'. And I was visiting the place after 15 years; last time on a school trip. This must have added to my bewilderment. Well, it does look like that when you are a bit far off the water falls. Having finished our break-fast at the hotel run by Karnataka Tourism department, we headed towards the natural beauty!

Photos, People and Monkeys : I think the first thing most of us do when we reach a tourist place is to capture in our camera the proof that we were there. Well, I insisted on that, though Manju and Guru were not in much enthusiasm to stand in front of the electronic gadget! But the enthusiasm for photographs was all over the place with people handing over their cameras to strangers to capture the perfect group photo in Jog. Apart from the humans, monkeys dotted the 1000 odd steps descending down to the bottom of the falls. It was a hot sunny day and so, we guessed it would take some effort getting down.

Walk, Rest, Walk : It seemed it would be easy getting down but it was not to be. Every now and then, we took rest to cross more stairs! Not to worry as we found people selling biscuits, cucumber slices, lemonades on the way to quench our thirst and silence our hunger!

Wow: As we were getting closer to the falls, it seemed it was revealing more of its ever charming beauty and I was uttering wow more than once. As a avid viewer of NGC and Discovery channels, I tried to capture that perfect shot imagining Amazon rain forest photographs. Well, it does help following these channels or the GEO magazine which I am subscribed which publishes some splendid pictures, as it provides you with new dimensions when you are trying to take some extraordinary photographs.

Water everywhere: Once we reached the bottom of the falls, it was water all over and the slippery rocks. Roarer falls was making too much noise justifying its name. Visibility was low purely because droplets arising out of the water falling on the rocks. In this setting, there were photographers lined up who will take the photos and give the printed photo then and there and their assurance - we avoid the mistiness in the photos taken though it was unavoidable. Getting wet and sitting on a rock listening the sounds made by the water is an amazing feeling. I can sit listening to these soothing sounds for hours together.

Rainbow: Having spent enough time down the falls, we were once again on the stairs on our way up. Mission was more difficult this time. Not doing physical exercises daily and spending most of the time sitting in front of the computer - these were evident on our tired faces. Having finished our water bottles on our journey down, we were now looking for anything liquid. Soon we found lemonade on offer. We had it but it only increased our thirst further. Thank god, there were also people selling plain drinking water! One of the best sights on our way back was the rainbow formed in front of the falls and it was the time to say wow once again.

Lunch: There are no good hotels near Jog. But all the shops boost of having one. Though these guys don't have a menu-card, they know the names of dishes Bangalore guys would love. But what is served is entirely different. Well, we managed this and ordered Omlette, plain rice, sambar avoiding fried rice second time!

Rani Falls: After lunch, it was time to get adventurous once again and go to the top of the falls. You need to bargain with autowallahs everywhere and Jog was no different. The auto rickshaw guy we found insisted on Rs.200 for the entire visit - Rani falls, British Bungalow and Sharavati valley. We brought it down to Rs.180. Rani falls is the first stream of water you get to see falling from a height.

Roarer and Rocket: After crossing British Bungalow, when we reached the spot where we can spot the other 3 falls, Roarer, Rocket and Raja - it was Roarer which caught my attention. Such speed, such loud sound - I felt a sense of fear and it was going to last longer as it was my nightmare for the next 2 days.

Raja Falls and Mungaaru Male Spot : Raja falls straight from the rocky top without any intervening rocks till it reaches ground. It is the same spot where Mugaaru Male was shot - Nandini(Pooja Gandhi aka Sanjana Gandhi then) expresses her love for Preetham(Ganesh) here and the song - Kunidu Kunidu Baare follows. It was quite dangerous to go near the place from where the Raja plunges down. We did not go there and there were plenty who were crazy enough to take a photograph lying down in the rock beside. One could also spot a monkey which was sitting over the edge of a rock without any fear!

Sharavati Valley: Then we went to see the Sharavati Valley. Well, it was dusk and it was a great time to see sun rays falling on the hills and it was a wonderful day to end with.

Vishnuvardhana is entertaining

Though without a great plot, Vishnuvardhana has plenty of ingredients to keep the audience glued to the silver screen till the end. Though few of the scenes sans logic, there are few which are brilliant - thanks to director P Kumar. I would say the film is well packaged and it is the comedy scenes which entertain the most with witty dialogues. That the film tries to make most of the popularity of late Kannada superstar Vishnuvardhan is evident from the first scene, though Sudeep falls short of imitating Vishnu's mannerisms.

Plot revolves around Vishnu alias Vishnuvardhana(Sudeep) and his rags-to-riches story and his confronting of don Adishesha(Sonu Sood). Duo of Sudeep and Arun Sagar(Shastry) form a good comedy pair. Sonu Sood as stylish villain suits the role well and it seems that he himself dubbed for this Kannada movie. Bhavana, the pretty face of 2010's hit movie Jackie makes her presence felt in this movie too. Priyamani, the other female lead has less scope here. The film is into the 7th week and there are already rumors of this film being remade in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu! Learning a language can be fun. Listening to songs, watching plays/movies of the particular language help us learn faster since in doing so we not only learn the tongue but also enjoy the performance. Also, one can learn the pronunciation of words and the accent. Isn't it the way we learnt Hindi apart from the lessons at school? Learn Tulu Online : Part 6 - Tulu Idioms, Sayings with Translations

Idioms form integral part of any language and add spice to the speech. In this part of Learn Tulu series, I am making an effort to put down idioms I know in Tulu language. There are few now and I hope to add more in the future. You can use these phrases in your speech to surprise your Tulu speaking friends :) More importantly, do let me know your opinion on this write up!

Tulu : bittilda dai yepala mardatt ge.
Kannada : hittala gida maddalla.
English : Literal translation - herb in your backyard is not the medicine. This idiom refers to the attitude of people who ignore the solutions which they already have(like their own ideas or ideas suggested by people at home) and seek external advice.

Tulu : aDkoDu adengune.
Kannada : bayalalli aDaguvudu.
English : Literal translation - hiding in the open field(only to be caught)

English : Literal translation - you can close the bowl with a lid but cannot shut the mouth of the big cylinder. This conveys one cannot stop the spread of rumors amoung people.

English : Literal translation - like the one who jumps to the river without knowing how to swim. This refers to people who jump to something without knowing the basics.

FAQs on Ninasam Culture Course at Heggodu

It was by chance I got introduced to the yearly Ninasam Culture Workshop/Course through one of my friends. In the end, the one who introduced me to this did not attend the program for the full week but I did attend and it was a wonderful experience in Heggodu, amidst the greens! Well, I thought in this post I would provide FAQs on the same, which would benefit the ones with literary interests.

What is Ninasam Culture Workshop/Course?

It is a week long workshop on culture appreciation - day sessions full of literary discussions and the evenings filled with theatre performances - drama, classical music.
Held yearly, normally during the first week of October. Ninasam has been holding this workshop for more than 2 decades now.
Majority of the discussions are in Kannada with few in English.
Every year workshop will be based on some theme. This year the theme was 'Indian Languages'

Where is Ninasam located?

It is located in Heggodu, 10km from Sagara in Shivamogga district of Karnataka.

What do you feel are the key take aways from the workshop?

One gets to know people with similar interests and enjoy their company.
One also can engage in open discussions with who's who of the literary world during and after the sessions.
This year's workshop had some big names - Kannada writers - U R Ananthamurthy, Giraddi Govindaraju, H S Venkateshamurthy, Vaidehi, K V Akshara, Kum Veerabhadrappa, M S Sriram, Theatre person - Prakash Belawadi, Bollywood script writer - Atul Tiwari (played the role of Mantriji in '3 Idiots'), Professor of Philosophy - Dr. Sundar Sarukkai
In the mornings, before the literary discussions of the day began, there were 2 sessions participants could choose to participate - basics of acting and photography basics. I chose photography basics. I must say that was an enlightening session for me. It changed my perspective of looking at photographs. I also came to know how to see it as a work of art. Karnataka's well known photographers A N Mukund and Rajaram took the sessions.
If you are interested in creative writing and confused about what and how to write, Ninasam Cultural Workshop could well provide you the inspiration. It may not teach you how to do creative writing but certainly prepares you to recognize good works and well, in some time you could start on your own!

What to do if you get bored during the workshop?

You could get bored during the workshop. At least I did because it is week long and after 2-3 days you could feel bogged down. Also, not every discussion held my attention. But then you are in Malnad region of Karnataka and you have plenty of travel options to explore.
Me and my friend Manjunath took a day off from workshop and went on a ferry ride to Sigandur!
There are other options you can try too - Ikkeri and Keladi (historical places - 6 km and 8 km from Sagara respectively), famous Jog Falls(2nd highest plunge water falls in India, 30 km from Sagara). To top it all, October is a suitable time to visit Malnad - no incessant rains!
You can also visit Charaka - the Khadi manufacturing unit in Heggodu.

Fees for the program and accommodation

Cost of the program was Rs.1500/- (for food, stay and shows in the evenings) for the Oct 2-8, 2011 workshop. One can pay and register for the program a month in advance.
Registered participants are provided with common accommodation in dormitories at Ninasam, Heggodu for the whole week.
Otherwise, you can stay at a hotel of your choice in Sagara on a seperate expense and reach Ninasam in the mornings to attend the sessions. After the performances in the evenings, Ninasam bus drops the participants to Sagara.
Or if you just want to attend the sessions for a day or two, you can do so without any fees.

Number of participants, their demography and feedbacks

There were around 200 participants in the workshop.
Participants include artists, students, people from academia, industrialists, engineers - on the whole people from diverse backgrounds sharing a common passion.
For the first timers like me, it was an exciting experience.
There were veterans who have been coming here for the last 5-10 years. For some, this time is a relaxing break from the busy and monotonous city life. There were students of arts who had enthusiastically come for the workshop and there were few who wanted a break from the boring college lectures!
Some were of the opinion that the same speakers came every year and wanted to see new speakers at the literary discussions.
I felt that this year's theme 'Indian Languages' could have been presented in a better way - people quoting, analyzing works from the past is fine. But it would have made more sense if there was a conscious effort to bring out the current literary scenarios and throw some light on recent works in various Indian languages.

Bit Philosophical, Bit Comical - Thats Paramathma for you!

Most of who watched Paramathma pointed out at the lack of linear story in the narrative. But when I saw the movie, I thought it is this mindset Yogaraj Bhat wants to break and for some part he succeeds too if you observe the turn out in the first week.

Bhat-Harikrishna Combo : Right from the audio release of Paramathma, songs of the film have created a rage among the audience. Bhat as lyricist and Harikrishna as music director have delivered another power packed audio after the hugely popular Jackie songs. Bhat's witty lines in perfect tunes provide enjoyable experience - so much that we forget there are melodies from Jayant Kaykini too!

Philosophical : Bhattru gets philosophical at times in the film and tries to present the shades of human relationships. Scenes like Puneeth visiting Buddhist monks, Avinash hitting Puneeth disguised in Bear's(Karadi) costume go to show that. Add to that the noise making dabba(box)! Even in the Kannada rap lyrics(with Kanglish lines) director infuses philosophical lines - Anumaana irada anuraaga illa(There is no love without doubt). Or take the example of mocking song about failed students. Systemme sariyalla chombeshwara, Prime minister aagbidla onde sala(System is not right, How about me becoming a Prime minister at once!) summarizes it all. Though Yogaraj Bhat presents his own philosophy, the questions presented in the movie are universal like following one's dreams and the dilemma in making choices. In a single line, Yogaraj equates one's heart to the almighty(Paramathma)!

Happy First Half : First half of the film presents the happy outlook of life. Witty dialogues turn the whole theater into a sea of laughter. Even the media created love story adds to the fun. Kone Male(Last Rain) presenting the stereotyped film makers of Gandhinagar is hilarious.

Serious Second Half : Second half of the movie gets a bit serious. You also start feeling whether the movie is going into disarray. But the protagonist constructing his dream house which is linked to the first half gets it back on track.

Extreme Reactions : Extreme reactions are expected of a film like this. After watching the film on the first day my friend Sandeep messaged saying Paramathma is too complicated for Sandalwood. On the other hand, reaction of a frustrated movie-goer was 'Ee film nodokke black ll bere barbeku' ((Why) I should buy tickets in black to watch a movie like this!)

Though I would not state that the film is without flaws. Even with its shortcomings Paramathma presents a new look of the Kannada cinema. But I would ask Bhat to do one thing - "Sir, change the theme of love in your films :)"

'Refreshing' - if Lifeu Ishtene has to be described in a single word. Directorial debut by Pawan Kumar entertains, makes you laugh and introspect too!

Contemporary : Movie portrays the current generation in a precise way. Audience can easily relate to the movie since many scenes are based on their life or of their peers! Director Pawan Kumar also knows where to put breaks too! I can not remember any other Kannada movie, which has shown the present youth, their confusions the way Pawan did. Well, hero's parents too are not stereotyped. They have changed. Now, you say that it is a new age movie. There is also attention to details - just to give an example - the reception party scene looks so authentic(thank god, there is no Kalyana Mantapa scenes added!).

Wit and Fun : Witty dialogues form the essential part of the movie and then there is Satish Ninasam, playing brilliantly the role of Vishal's(Diganth) friend to guide our misguided hero and make you laugh. Raju Talikote too adds his flavour to the humor. Sindhu Loknath and Samyukta Hornad(daughter of Sudha Belawadi, who played the role of Ganesh's mom in Mungaaru Male) sizzle on screen. Diganth as a confused youth plays his role well. "Film in film" - clippings of films shown in this movie stitch well - which avoids unnecessary talk!

Rewind and Forward : Many of us would have got bored with the flashback shown in movies. Here though the same trick is employed, flashback is not sequential. Instead it switches back and forth. With Diganth becoming narrator for some time gives a break from that monotonous way of rewinding life. Childhood memories of the protagonist makes you go back to innocent school days. This is also one of the highlights of the movie.

Audio Visual Treat : Good cinematography with excellent screenplay make the movie a worth watch. Songs shot in Ladakh are a visual treat and what to say about Dubai's beautiful locations. Simply awesome. Not to forget our namma Bengaluru which itself is shown beautiful on screen. Choreography for some melodious songs go on familiar lines. Also, I am wondering what happened to the contest for lyrics for the tune provided in the audio CD of the movie!

Facebook : Just like how Facebook has become integral part in our lives, it forms the core part of the movie too. In the final scenes it is more evident. It goes to show how our lives have changed in this information age.

Paradigm Shift : Indian cinema has come of age with Bollywood making some brilliant efforts at finding meaning in life through its movies and with this movie, Kannada cinema is following suit. On a different note, though the maker has not tried to convey any message, some may feel so in the climax. But this should be looked as circumstantial inference than a generic one! I would also like to see this as life's dualism or dvandva - which path to choose - and this continues throughout one's life!

Jokulatike - A Commendabale Effort

After watching the Tulu play, Gopala Ee Paar Bala at Townhall, Bangalore on 7th August 2011, I bought the DVD of Jokulatike, a Tulu tele film, primarily because of the star cast - Naveen D Padil, Bhojaraj Vamanjoor and Aravind Bolar, prominent names in Tulu theater. Well, Jokulatike did not disappoint me.

Directed by Sai Krishna M and produced by Ahalya productions, Jokulatike is a well made tele film. Sai Krishna M, who had acted in ace film maker Girish Kasaravalli's Kannada movie, Gulabi Talkies, does a neat job here. One should also applaud for the production value of the film.

Story revolves around the real estate agents in Mangalore. Ashok(Bhojaraj Vamanjoor), Ashraf, Allwyn(Aravind Bolar) are childhood buddies. They are into real estate business to make some quick bucks. How they outwit one another to get that elusive deal forms rest of the story. Naveen D Padil plays the role of a don with a heart of gold. Dialogues and sequences leading to loads of laughter make it a commendable effort.

So, do pick your DVD of Jokulatike soon.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara : Film Review

Simplistic but a very engaging film - this is my one line review of ZNMD. No extraordinary dialogues, no extraordinary sequences either. One can easily connect to the characters and the situations they are in. That is the precise reason why it has set the cash registers ringing at the box office.

Crux: Three friends (Hritik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan Akthar) are on a bachelor road trip in Spain. In the three week long trip, how they discover themselves forms the crux of the story. Not to forget the fun part along which keeps your funny bone tickling.

Screenplay : Seems like bollywood has moved on with its stereotypes. There is more talk through gestures. Less dialogues give more time for the viewers for the introspection of a scene. Even in introducing - deep sea diving, sky diving and bull run, which is somewhat alien to the Indian audience, Zoya has consciously not put the rules or the jargon which might have made the film boring.

Conquering Fears : On a philosophical note too film scores high. Conquering one's fears, looking for meaning in life - if it sounds too heavy to digest now, well, you will not feel the same after you have seen the movie.

Exotic locations in Spain add to the richness of the movie. On the whole, it is a well made movie. A definite watch for all.

Mahabalipuram Trip - Part 3 : Arjuna's Penance, Krishna's Butter Ball, Varaha Cave Temple and Tiger's Cave

Arjuna's Penance : The huge relief structure, Arjuna's penance is also called the Descent of the Ganga. Story from Mahabharata, where Arjuna performs tapasya(penance) to get Pashupatastra from Lord Shiva is depicted here. In addition, the story of Bhagiratha's efforts to bring divine river Ganga to earth finds place here.

Arjuna's penance, Mahabalipuram

Arjuna's penance is a structure measuring 30m (100ft) long by 15m (45ft) high, quite huge compared to human figure. Near to the Arjuna's penance, you can find the Krishna Mandapa. Walls of the Mandapa tell the story - how Lord Krishna lifted Mount Govardhana to protect the villagers when the rain god Varuna vented his anger by bringing incessant rains.

Varaha Cave Temple and Krishna's Butter Ball : Moving on we spotted Varaha cave temple next. On way to cave temple, one finds Lord Ganesha temple, where unlike many temples in historic places, poojas seem to be conducted. But surprisingly, there was no statue of the god in the Varaha cave shrine. But one could find carvings of Varaha on temple wall. On the rocky hill nearby, Krishna's butter ball is a huge mounted rock, with virtually no support. People posing for photos as if they are holding it from rolling down was a common sight. Well, we did take our turn in doing so too! Down the hill, we found one more cave temple but dedicated to Lord shiva.

Tiger's cave : That brought an end to the visual treat we could have at Mahabalipuram town. But I had read in a travel guide about the Tiger's cave which is located 5 km before entering the Mahabalipuram town. So, I made sure to ask the driver to stop there. Apart from the cave, it is surrounded by trees, making it an ideal place for picnic.

Chennai Bits : Don't know is it because of the part of Chennai we explored, I noticed only few big commercial complexes or modern glass buildings, a far cry from a city like Bangalore. Of the few, Hilton Chennai caught my attention for a while! Chennai traffic which greeted us on that day morning did say bye in the evening too, again in the same fashion - traffic jam. We had to get down from the Volvo bus we boarded to reach CMBT and walk to catch the KSRTC Corona to reach Bengaluru next day morning.

Afterthoughts : After completing a series of posts on Mahabalipuram, I felt that any documentation on India's heritage site always leaves genuine readers wanting for more, purely because of the intricacies of architecture and not to forget the history and mythology associated with the place and the work of art. Here, I have tried to highlight only few aspects. If it arouses interest in the minds of readers about the rich heritage of India, I would consider my efforts fruitful. Oriyardori Asal - Film Review

Movies can be entertaining or thought provoking. Tulu movie Oriyardori Asal, falls into both the categories. So, it is clear that why it has drawn crowds in Mangalore and Udupi districts. Oriyardori Asal literally means one better than the other. The film is based on the Tulu drama of the 90's of the same name. Punch dialogues of the drama are part of modern Tulu folklore! Evidently, the film has been able to take full advantage of that.

Objective Note : Film begins with talks of highs and lows of Tuluvas, takes note of the people who have excelled for the right reasons and mentions few who have become infamous for wrong reasons. Also, it discusses the present challenges faced by Tulu Nadu, Tulu language not being included in the 8th schedule of constitution. Director of the movie, Vijaya Kumar Kodialbail has dared to present several issues upfront, which is a positive note for the marginalized linguistic community as well as for the coastal region. In his effort, he also makes a passing mention of the communal tensions marring the region in recent years.What to look out for : Needless to say dialogues are the most entertaining part of the movie. With the likes of Naveen D Padil and Aravind Bolar you are destined for full throttle of laughter all the time. Some of the dialogues and characters have been modified to suit the new age - like driver Babanna's never ending lines - Yaan panpun daada panda... (translated : What I want to say is..) during Bhoota Kola have been totally removed and replaced with his cell phone histrionics or say the character of coconut plucker Naathu who comes well dressed with a brief case to hold the coconut plucking tool! Film is also not devoid of glamour too as it has Ramya Barna of Pancharangi fame as heroine. Famous song from the original drama Bhageerathammana Per, Aitundu Ardhala Neer finds new tune here. There is also a song shot entirely in Mumbai, with lyrics in Tulu and Hindi with a Marathi line too - Sundar Sundar Amchi Mumbai shows Tulu dramatist's longing for Mumbai. Technically, I have no doubt in my mind to say that this Tulu movie is on par with the films made in Gandhinagar.

'Star' Cast : Kannada music director Gurukiran who hails from Mangalore makes a guest appearance in a song. Mr.World Raymod D'souza has a brief role in the film too.Thought provoking questions : An inept government body governing the city, leaders who are not ready to protect the fertile lands from polluting industries, deteriorating values among people - all come under hammer. High literacy rate and the presence of Tuluva people in prominent positions - have not ensured the constitutional recognition for the lingua franca of this coastal region. Though the film puts across these questions to the audience, treatment is superficial.

Asserting identity : Vijaya Kumar Kodialbail already said that he will announce the name of his next movie on the 100th day of the movie Oriyardori Asal. Nice to see such development for Tulu cinema which has only about 40 films to its credit. Apart from that, two other minority languages of Karnataka - Kodava and Beary are also finding their voice through cinema. Kodava movie - Jadi Male got released last year. Kannada actor Shiwadhwaj Shetty is directing the Kodava movie - Naa Puttna Mann. Beary language got its first film ever this year.

Going places : Encouraged by the stupendous success of the movie, Vijaya Kumar Kodialbail intends to release the movie in neighboring Kasaragod, of course Mumbai and Gulf countries, where Tuluvas have a good presence. Not to worry, film is going to be released in Bangalore too. As per the latest information, Oriyardori Asal will be released in Bangalore on Friday, 22nd July, 2011 at Gopalan Cinemas, Mysore Road (7 PM show).

Update - 25/07/2011 : As per the latest info available in media, due to technical reasons, Oriyardori Asal was not released in Bangalore on 22nd July 2011. Instead it will be released this Friday, July 29, 2011.

Update - 18/01/2012 : New Tulu film - Aamet Asal Eemet Kusal starring Naveen D Padil, Sai Krishna and directed by Ranjan Raghu Shetty will be released in the month of February 2012.

Mahabalipuram Trip - Part 2 : Pancharathas and Hill Temple

Back from Shore Temple, we went to Pancharathas(literally meaning five chariots). These monolithic structures which date back to 7th century, are named after the five Pandavas and Draupadi. Knowing a bit history of the place whenever you visit a tourist place can add to the excitement and thrill of the trip! Well, I have experienced it when I visited Chitradurga fort. I had read the Kannada novel, Hamsageethe. Though it is a work of fiction, historical elements are nicely blended, which makes you feel it is a real story. Now, lets turn back the pages of history about Pancharathas.

Pancharathas, Mahabalipuram

Bit of history about the Pancharathas : This is what ASI(Archaeological Survey of India) plaque at the place had to say about the Pancharathas - "These monolithic temples are known as Rathas as they resemble wooden chariot and they are an innovation of Pallava king Narasimhavarman I (Mamalla)(630-668 AD). A huge rock sloping from south to north was utilized judiciously to cutout different forms of temples, besides few animal sculptures. Though these monolithic temples are termed as Panchapandava rathas, they have nothing to do with Mahabharata. These rathas with their ekatala to tritala vimanas and different in plan and elevation exhibit splendid forms of south Indian art and architecture.

Draupadi Ratha, Mahabalipuram

The Nakula-Sahadeva ratha has apsidal vimana. A relief sculpture of Ardhanariswara on the wall of Dharamaraja ratha with perfect balancing of the masculine and feminine features is considered to be one of the finest specimen of early Pallava plastic art. The ratha also contains pallava grantha inscription recording the titles of Narasimhavarman I. The group of five rathas were executed as models of south Indian temples and were not consecrated as their stupas are still attached with the bedrock."

The first structure you find here is named after Draupadi, is different from other rathas as there are less carvings and the dome resembles the roof of a hut. Also, this is the smallest ratha. Next you can find the Arjuna Ratha. Further Bhima Ratha covers a large area, seemingly attributed to the large built of Bhima. Dharmaraja Ratha, is a larger version of Arjuna Ratha. From Pancharathas, on way to Arjuna's Penance, you will find the hill temple. You can walk up the hill, to get a nice view of the Mahabalipuram town and sea nearby. I felt the hill temple similar to the Stone chariot at Hampi though the wheels are not present here.

Mahabalipuram Trip - Part 1: Shore Temple

First Impression: It was my first visit to Chennai and the first sight when we(me, Manju and Harish) reached Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus or CMBT at Koyambedu on a Monday morning was not a pleasant one. Several bays in the bus stand full of plastic and garbage made it an eyesore. Coming out from there, we were greeted by several auto drivers making a beeline for potential passengers, a familiar scene in any Indian city. Well aware of the fact that Chennai auto drivers do not use meters for charging customers, we went to the prepaid counter to get an auto to Virugambakkam. Though the guy at the counter issued a receipt which was half the price others were quoting right at the gate, we soon realized that was more than double the price we would have paid in Bangalore for the same distance(around 3-4 km's)

Oh no, Traffic Jam here too! : Jammed traffic was an inconvenience which did delay the process of reaching our venue. When asked about the jams, auto driver maintained that it was only on Mondays. But roads dug up for Chennai metro work indicated it was not a weekly affair. Having a Tamil speaking guy(Harish) in our group made things simpler when we had to inquire with the hotel receptionist in Tamil about the booked rooms. We had come for a friend's wedding which was scheduled in the evening. So, we had a whole day free to explore in and around the city. With my interest in historical places, I already had Mahabalipuram in mind. After checking into our room, we got a call from our bridegroom-friend. First thing he asked was whether the AC is working properly. We thought it was the right question to ask in a city like Chennai, where temperatures can rise up to 42 degree Celsius. On the other hand, Harish's friends in Chennai advised against going to Mahabalipuram because of two reasons, chief being the hot weather and the time it will take to reach there tackling Chennai traffic. But we had already made up our mind. Soon, we called up a taxi guy for a day's rental.

ECR : When we started from Virumbakkam, it was around 11 30 am. Though we had to counter the Chennai traffic again, once we reached East Coast Road(ECR), it was a smooth drive. ECR running along the sea coast is dotted with resorts. Thought it would be good option to try next time. 60 km distance was not a long one and after one and half hours, at around 1 pm, we were at the outskirts of Mahabalipuram getting down for lunch. Ready to experiment with the East coast sea food cuisine, I ordered a fish curry only to find it not good:( Oh! Forgot the name of the fish too!

Shore Temple : Entering Mahabalipuram, first we stopped at the Shore temple, picture of which you will find in travel brouchers or in google image results! This is the first historical temple, I have seen at the sea shore. Amazing sight it is - with sea waves on one side and an architectural wonder on the other. Green pasture around the temple is well maintained by Archaeological Survey of India(ASI) and gives the temple the unique look. Unlike the temples in the main land, temples at the sea shore suffer from erosion. It was evident from the lack of fine carvings, if you see the temple today. But it should be noted this has been in existence for more than 1300 years now. The temple dates back to 700-728 AD during the reign of Pallavas. Though it seems like there are 2 shrines looking at the 2 gopuras, there are in fact 3 shrines.

2 of the bigger shrines with gopurams are dedicated to God Shiva and the smaller shrine in between is dedicated to God Vishnu, thus honoring the beliefs of both Shaiva and Vaishnava sects. This is very rare as you will find either temples dedicated to either God Shiva or Vishnu in other historical places in India. Main sanctum sanctorum (garbha gudi) houses big Shivalinga. But as I clicked flash on my camera there, I could hear some creaky sounds from inside the temple. When we went to see what is it, battalion of bats was hanging from the roof. It seemed ironical that even after being one of the World heritage sites in India, place was in such a pathetic condition. Then we went to the Vishnu shrine where a reclining Vishnu idol is carved. Yet to find the significance of the carving of reclining Vishnu.

Camera Fiasco : Soon after that we had the inevitable photo sessions at the historical place, some for Facebook and some for the memories!! When we had to take a group photo, we handed over the digital camera to a guy who sincerely told us he does not how to take a picture using it. As usual, we insisted to hold the click button for a few seconds. To our surprise, he held the camera in opposite direction about to take a picture of himself without knowing where the click button was. Now, we were sure that we gave the equipment to the wrong guy. It also made us feel we should not take things granted like this - assuming everyone in the world knows how to operate a digital camera! Fortunately we found another person who knew how to use it.
Bang on Target : After the shore temple visit, our immediate destination was the beach nearby. On the way, we could spot a Thiruvalluvar statue. Nearby that we saw few people standing around the balloon shooting place. We took a plunge. Harish was the first to pick the gun for the shots and he had all six bullets on target - six balloons busted. When our turn came, me and Manju drew blank - none of the bullets made an impact! Walking on the sand, we went on to touch waves of Bay of Bengal. Till today, I have seen only Arabian sea. So, to have a glimpse of Bay of Bengal in Mahabalipuram was special. Though the sea, the waves were the same here too :), sun over the top was hotter than West coast of India. Without spending much time, we headed back to our next destinations - Pancha Rathas. While returning from the sea shore, inspired by Harish's performance, I picked the gun again - this time the score was better - 3 out of 6 shots were on target!

Kanasembo Kudureyaneri Film Review

Girish Kasaravalli's latest venture Kanasembo Kudureyaneri looks at how differently men view death. Changes have been made to the original story by Amaresh Nugadoni on which the film is based and it presents the rational side of things as is the case with most of Kasaravalli's films.

At the beginning of the film, audience is presented with a quote of Jean-Luc Godard, a famous French film maker - “A story should have a beginning, a middle, and an end... but not necessarily in that order” and spectator realizes this as the movie progresses. The film presented as a sequence of events happening during three days are not in chronological order. This presentation may create confusion in the minds of those who have already read the story and also those who have not read it. This may also prompt them to go for a second viewing too.

But to get the gist of the story, this is not a hindrance. This technique of randomly presenting the scenes is not new to Kannada industry, as director Upendra presented the same in his debug film as hero in 'A'. He called the technique '2-D' then and asked for a intelligent audience for his film. One different aspect of Girish's films is his use of different dialects of Kannada. If it was Kundapura Kannada in Gulabi talkies, it is North Karnataka lingo here.

Man's dreams are a product of his beliefs. There are no dreams without beliefs, and there is no life without dreams. Modern civilization has impacted human thinking in a profound way. His beliefs have changed. Hollowness of human relations gets exposed very easily during these times. As he becomes more logical in his thinking with selfish motives he tries to keep away from his loved ones(or once?). The film explores all these aspects in a sensitive manner. Film has been presented with light hearted humour as well as sarcasm. Vaijanath Biradar who is branded as a comedian gives one of his best performances here as a grave digger. So, is Umashri who acts as his wife.

As far as the title is concerned(Kanasembo Kudureyaneri - Riding the stallion of a dream), it is appropriate as the film is the sum total of Eerya(Biradar) and his wife's dreams. It is difficult to present dream on screen. Kasaravalli succeeds partially in that. Film as such is a worth watch.

I am overjoyed by the responses to my Learn Tulu series of posts. These posts have received the highest number of page views as well as comments from my readers. Thank you all for the same. After seeing the interest among the readers to learn the language, I am confident that Tulu language will definitely survive many more years contrary to what UNESCO's report has indicated. I had started Learn Tulu series last year primarily to spread the language and save it from extinction.

By the way, some of the readers have expressed their concern about the pronunciation and suggested to write these posts in Kannada script too. Though I have used the transliteration convention used by Baraha software, there may be cases when the reader can get confused. So, in my Kannada blog, I have started the same series using Kannada script, which can serve as a proper pronunciation guide as with Indic scripts, what you write is what you read. Pancharangi Film Review

Its another case of a big director movie being a big let down. Well, I see Pancharangi as a continuation of his earlier venture Manasaare. Yogaraj Bhat has presented Manohar(Diganth) of Manasaare who was a jobless youth in a new avatar as Bharath Kumar. Similarities show up from the first scene. Its a classic case of a frustrated youth making fun of the way people live and view life. Of course, director has used the same dialogue style(that of being different from what people normally speak) he employed in Mungaaru Male. But here, Diganth and Nidhi take up that job which was Ganesh's USP then.

Looking at the pace of the movie, you will wonder whether its going to be all new view on life. But wait, it takes only few minutes before you realize otherwise. But then you have brighter aspects in the movie too. The case of Nityananda Swami seems to have inspired one of the characters, which is well portrayed. Also, the herd mentality of the people who watch numerous astrology programs on most of the national and regional TV channels and believe whatever the astrologer says takes a bashing here.

Well, dialogues for some part of the film entertain the audience. But they seem to be on similar lines. I found the trailer of the movie more interesting than the actual movie. Watching the movie, I fee director seems to be in confusion about his view on life. Whatever it is, the film is definitely not up to the mark, where you would go to the movie by just seeing director Yogaraj's name.

Tulu Script and Thawlava Software

Not many people know that Tulu language has its own script. Bhagavato is the first Tulu epic to have been written in Tulu Script. In this epic, Poet Vishnutunga quotes Kannada poets Kumaravyaasa and Chaatu Vithalanaatha. Bhagavato dates back to 1636 A.D. This epic has been preserved in Manuscripts Department of Mangalore University with the efforts of Dr Venkataraja Puninchattaya(Info: Baravuda Jeetige - by Suryoday Perampalli).Kannada actor Suryoday Perampalli has brought out a book of Tulu alphabets. You can see the Tulu alphabets from one of the pages of the book below. On the other hand, National Computer Literacy Committee has come up with Tulu transliteration software - Thwalava 2.0. Key board layout used is the same as the one used for Kannada transliteration software - Nudi. There are 50 alphabets in Tulu language. Demo of the software was done in last year's World Tulu Convention. You can also see the usage of the software in the video below.

Learn Tulu Online : Part 5 - Sentence Formation in Tulu

I am overwhelmed by the positive responses from the readers for Learn Tulu Online Series. Knowing few phrases may be a good starting point to learn a new language. But if not taught formal structure/grammar of the language, one will not go beyond those few phrases. As some of you have suggested earlier, in this post there is an attempt to teach the language formally.

Sentence formation in Tulu :
Pronouns:
English: I, You, He, She, We, They, This, That
Tulu : yaan, ee, aaye, aal, nama, akl, undu, avu
Kannada : naanu, neenu, avanu, avaLu, naavu, avaru, idu, adu

Apart from the pronouns listed above, one important and common pronoun to use in any Indian languge is the plural form of 'you', to address the person you are talking to.
In Tulu, you use eer.
In Kannada, you can use neevu or taavu.

Verbs:
Some of the common verbs used in day-to-day life
English: go, come, sit, laugh, stop, call, tell, do, write, read
Tulu: pola, bala, kullu, telipu, unt, leppu, pan, manpu, barela, odla
Kannada: hogu, baa, koothko, nagu, nillu, kare, heLu, maaDu, bare, odu

Some more verbs
English: give, take, eat, drink, run, get up, dance, watch/look, wait, talk
Tulu: koru, detonu, tin, par, balipu, lakk, nalipu, toola, kaapu, paater
Kannada: kodu, tegeduko, tinnu, kuDi, oDu, ELu, kuNi, noDu, kaayi, maatanaaDu

Listed above are the singular forms these verbs. It is important to use the plural form of these verbs as otherwise it might be perceived as disrespect while talking to elders or the people you meet for the first time. So, here are the list of plural forms of the above verbs in their respective order. Also, it should be noted that these verb forms are the ones used, when you directly talk to the person and not in 3rd person narration.
Tulu: pole, bale, kullule, telipule, untle, leppule, panle, manpule, barele, odle
Kannada: hogi, banni, koothkoLLi, nagi, nilli, kareyiri, heLi, maaDi, bareyiri, odi

By now, you would have realized that in Tulu for the verbs, if you add 'le' at the end you would get the plural form of the same(atleast it is true for the verbs listed here). In Kannada, though the suffix may be different for the words ending in different letters, 'i' at the end is common.

Objects:
English: lunch/dinner, water, tea, home, work, place
Tulu: vaNas, neer, chaaya, ill, bEle, oor
Kannada: ooTa, neeru, chahaa, mane, kelasa, ooru

Simple Sentence Formation : As it is always better to start off with plural form of verbs while learning any Indian language, I have used the same below. For singular forms refer the list above.

English : You take this route.
Tulu : eer ee route detonle.
Kannada : neevu ee route thegedukoLLi.
(though 'this' is 'undu' in Tulu, in this context for 'this route', 'ee route' is more appropriate. Same in the case of Kannada. Also, usually in Indian languages verbs come last unlike in English, where it comes in the middle of the sentence)

English : You run in the marathon.
Tulu : eer marathan d balipule.
Kannada : neevu marathonnalli ODi.

English : You sit in this chair.
Tulu : eer ee chair d kullule.
Kannada : neevu ee chairnalli koothkoLLi.

Prithvi(Kannada) Movie Review

That Prithvi is a film, based on the current political scenario in Karnataka(involving mining lords) is now well known. But how well it has managed to keep this theme throughout the film without being too filmy, is the question to be asked. According to me, Prithvi manages to be out of the ordinary. But then it is far from being a cult movie.

Prithvi(Puneeth Rajkumar) faces political pressures, right from the first day of being appointed as the Deputy Commissioner(DC) of Bellary. But he refuses to yield to politicians/mining lobby's demands. First half of the movie depicts the working of DC offices pretty well. Full marks to Jacob Varghese for that.

But taking up a realistic subject and being commercial in movie making is a tough balancing act. That's what you feel when you see 5 duets being stuffed in the movie. Well, songs could have been reduced to 2 or 3. Then you have female lead, Parvati Menon limited to dancing in those 5 songs. Also, less scope for veteran actor, Avinash in a villainous role. Though the film's first half is a subject of recent times, the climax in the second half is a cliche. It seems like a repeat of those from action films of the 80s and 90s. Film fails miserably here because sequences being too melodramatic.

Barring the cliches in the film, dialogues are the highlight. Dialogues taking a dig at celebrity worshipping in India and on the current political setup invokes laughter. Also there are dialogues relating to one's ideals and being practical. One ridiculous thing in the film is the disclaimer shown at the beginning, that the film being not related any real incidents/persons. But after hearing few sarcastic dialogues, anyone can make out that Karnataka politicians and Kannada media is at the receiving end. If not, do you think former prime minister Mr.H D Deve Gowda would have watched the film, taking time out of his 'busy' schedule?

City Centre Mall, Mangalore - Inauguration Today

With this Mangaloreans will have one more place to hang out and shop. Few days back, Life style outlet was opened in this mall. Various events were held in the mall running upto the inaugural day. Puttur Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple Chariot Festival

Chariot Festival of Mahotobhaara Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple, Puttur was held on April 17, 2010. 71 feet high Brahma Ratha or Chariot was the highlight this time. Though it rained heavily for about an hour during the night of Chariot festival and created a mess for the people gathered, once it stopped raining people gathered again with the same enthusiasm at the festival grounds. Before Chariot festival begins, there is cracker festival held, witnessed and applauded by thousands gathered. Sky filled with colors during this time, is a treat to watch. But this time, due to rains cracker festival began at about 11 pm. So I could not see the whole of the festival. Here are some of the photos from the festival.

Trip to Horanadu, Kalasa, Hosanadu Temples

To reach Horanadu from Sringeri you need to go via Kudremukha. If you love driving, then you would definitely want the roads to be as good as in Kudremukha. Great roads amidst greenary makes the drive memorable. Soon after Kudremukha, you will be greeted by tea estates on your way to Kalasa. Horanadu is half an hour journey from Kalasa. We had planned first to go to Horanadu then visit Kalasa temple, on our way back to Mangalore.

Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple

As it was a holiday season, the temple was full of devotess from all over Karnataka. We went in queue for darshanam of Goddess Annapoorneshwari. Temple surroundings are filled with greenary. Coconut and arecanut palms form the backdrop of the temple. After the darshanam, we had the food in Bhojana Shaala of the temple. After this, when we started towards Kalasa, it was 3 15 in the afternoon.

When we reached Kalasa, it was 3 45 pm. Kalasa is located in Mudigere Taluk of Chikmagalur district and is the abode of Lord Kalaseshwara. This place is also known as Dakshin Kashi. Using the stairs, if you go towards the temple, first you will find storeyed building, much similar to the houses in Malnad. After moving to the right of this building, you will find Kalaseshwara Temple. Usually, people who visit Malnad, visit Sringeri, Horanadu and Kalasa temples in a single day. So, we could identify the faces, we saw in Sringeri and Horanadu.

After the darshanam of Lord Kalaseshwara, when we started towards Mangalore, it was 4 30 pm. On our way back, in Kudremukha, we could spot a rainbow. Perfect picture in a perfect place. My plan when coming back was to go to Hanumana Gundi falls(Soothanabbi falls), which is 22 meters in height and is in Kudremukha National Park. But when we reached the place, it was closed as the entry timings are from morning 9 to evening 4 30 and it was already 6.

Kudremukha Roads - Too Good

These days, Kodyadka or Hosanadu (which is 7 km from Alangar in Dakshina Kannada in Moodabidare - Karkala highway) is becoming famous for Hosanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple. We decided to visit the shrine. Hosanadu temple was built by a localite when he got inspired, after frequent visits to Horanadu, to build a similar temple in his native.

At the temple entrance, you will see, 63 feet Lord Hanuman statue, holding the mountain containing Sanjeevini herbs. When you move further towards the temple, you will find a beautiful garden. Garbhagudi of the temple is a replica of Horanadu temple. Devotees are offered meals after the night pooja. One more thing worth mentioning here is that, priests do not accept any dakshina(money offerings) from devotees.

When we reached Mangalore, after visiting Hosanadu - that ended our 2 day pilgrimage trip to temples in coastal and Malnad Karnataka.

Sringeri Trip : Vidyaranya Temple and Sharadaamba Temple

Continuing from previous post

Next day morning, I went out to explore the streets of Sringeri town. I could see streets filled with morning mist, few news paper shops being open and people from different parts of India getting ready for a morning darshanam of Goddess Sharadaamba. A crowd had gathered in front of a shop, discussing news broadcasted on TV that morning. When enquired, I came to know the sad news that Kannada matinee idol, Dr.Vishnuvardhan had died that morning. The day before, Kannadigas had wept for the loss of their beloved musician - Dr. C Ashwath. Thought it was huge loss for Kannada cinema and music with the passage of these two giants.

Sringeri Vidyashankara Temple

After a while, I headed towards Sringeri Temple. An architectural wonder, Vidyashankara Temple comes to mind when anybody speaks of Sringeri. This was built by Vidyaranya, the guru of Hakka and Bukka, founders of Vijayanagar Empire. The sight of temple covered with morning mist, takes us to a different world altogether. The walls of the Vidyashankara Temple are filled with sculptures from Hindu mythology, notably ten avatars of Lord Vishnu and there are pillars representing each of Hindu zodiac signs.

They say, every morning, first rays of the sun falls on that pillar of zodiac, where the sun is currently positioned. Amazing, right? Besides Vidyaranya temple is the Sharadaamba temple, which is the prominent temple in Sringeri. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Sharadaamba or Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, arts and music. One of the Hindu rites, Vidyaaramba (Akshararambha) or the commencement of studies is performed here, by making the child write first alphabets on rice grains. The prasadam offered at the temple, the orange coloured sweet is very tastier. In front of the Sharadaamba temple, there is Jagadguru Sri Nrusimha Bharati Yaaga Mantapam.

Sringeri Temple is on the banks of River Tunga. This is an added attraction as one can see from the banks of the river, lot of fresh water fishes. Near the bank of the river, you could also see the sculptures of a serpent giving shade to a pregnant frog. It is this incident, which showed the sanctity of the place, inspired Adi Shankaracharya to establish the Sringeri Matha, which is one of the 4 mathas he established in India.

Once you cross the bridge across the river, you can find Narasimhavana, the garden which houses Avisthana Mandiras. Entry timings for that is from 9 am to 12 pm and 5 pm to 9 pm. Since we did not have enough time to visit Avisthana Mandiras, we finished our breakfast in Sringeri and headed towards Horanadu.

Trip to Udupi, Anegudde, Kollur, Agumbe and Sringeri

Last December, I visited some of the pilgrimage centres in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chickmagalur districts with my family members. We left Mangalore on Dec 29th morning to reach Udupi. After a long time, I was visiting Udupi. So, the new gopuram built in front of the shrine, caught my attention. After visiting Udupi we headed towards one of the famous temples of Coastal Karnataka, Anegudde.

Udupi Sri Krishna Temple

From Udupi, to reach Aanegudde, you need to go via Kundapur through National Highway 17. This place also called Kumbhashi is abode of Lord Vinayaka. Idol of Lord Vinayaka covered in silver armour. Kumbhashi is one of the seven places for salvation in Coastal Karnataka. As the legend goes, once there prevailed a severe draught in this place. Then sage Agastya, came here to perform Yajnas to please rain god, Varuna. But the demon Kumbhasura used to disrupt the yajnas. At this time, Lord Vinayaka blesses Bheema, strongest of the Pandavas with a sword, by which he kills Kumbhasura. In Kannada, 'asi' means sword. So, the place where Kumbhasura was killed with the sword was known as Kumbhashi.

Anegudde Sri Vinayaka Temple

Apart from the shrine, people from Dakshina Kannada/Udupi are also well aware of monkeys living in Anegudde and the tricks they play. People have tagged the monkeys as 'Anegudde Ponkr Manga'(mischievous monkey from Aneguude). But to my surprise there no sign of any monkey in the place, when we visited.

Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple

After Anegudde our next destination was Kollur. Kollur is the abode of goddess Sri Mookambika. Kollur is a place of interest to both the devout and trek enthusiasts. River Sowparnika flowing in front of the temple with Kodachadri hill in the background, is sure to delight the nature lovers. To get the darshanam of Sri Mookambika, there are two queues maintained. One is the regular queue without any seva charges. Another one is the North Gate Dharshanam. You have to pay Rs.15 per head for this.For complete details about Kollur, you can visit this link. Here is the list of sevas you can perform in Kollur. After visiting Kollur, we were getting ready for a journey through the Western Ghats.

Kodachadri Hills

Our next plan was to reach Sringeri via Agumbe. Agumbe in the western ghats is famous for its sunset point. It records high rainfalls in the region. But it was too misty to view any light from the sun. It was 8 in the night when we reached Sringeri.

Sringeri Mutt provides pilgrims with rooms for stay at a nominal rate. Since we could easily find the Mutt's office as soon as we entered Sringeri, there was no difficulty in getting rooms for accomodation. Month of December is also a time when school children go on a educational tour. Sringeri too was visited by school children then. More on Sringeri and Chickmagalur in the next post.

Aptharakshaka - Movie Review

Nagavalli is back again in Aptharakshaka. Psychiatrist Dr.Vijay (Dr.Vishnuvardhan) tries to cure the person who considers herself as Nagavalli. Of course, Ramachandra Acharya(Avinash) helps Dr.Vijay in this task. Well, on the whole Aptharakshaka is an apt sequel to Apthamitra(2004).

Like in Apthamitra, a family is devasted by the strage things happening in their house after the painting of Nagavalli is brought home. To solve this mystery, Ramachandra Acharya is called upon. Then Acharya calls upon Dr.Vijay after realizing that the problem is similar what he had seen in Ramesh's house(in Apthamitra). Dr.Vijay and Ramachandra Acharya, both had thought that the problems created by Nagavalli had ended in Ramesh's house. Then they discuss on this aspect several times but fail to come to a conclusion on any matter. Well, the story takes curious twist in the second half. Probably those who had seen Apthamitra also may not have guessed this part of the story. This is what makes the movie interesting to watch.

What I liked about the movie - Story which is in line with Apthamitra and sequences which are well connected to the old story, attention to minor details in the movie, science and myth which come face to face in the discussions of Dr.Vijay and Acharya, proofs provided in support of the surprising elements in the movie. Sequences in the movie which show why Nagavalli is after King Vijaya Rajendra Bahaddur is well depicted. Well, Vishnuvardhan also plays the role of King Vijaya Rajendra Bahaddur with ease. Though in some scenes, if graphic elements were not used, they would have been more natural. Also, the climax of the movie could have been shot in a better way. Inspite of these, Aptharakshaka is a good watch and surely go for it.

Learn Tulu Online : Part 4 - Talking to your friend in Tulu - More sentences

There have been numerous requests from the readers to provide more sentences in Tulu after the first 3 posts in the Learn Tulu Online series. But I am not sure which sentences are more useful to them, as they have not mentioned what they want. But I feel, most of the times, you would tend to talk to your Tulu speaking friend in Tulu than anyone else. So, I am putting down another list of sentences in Tulu, which may help you in talking to your friend. As always, suggestions from the readers are welcome. Please specify the type of sentences you want.

English : Come, let's have tea.
Kannada : banni, chahaa kuDiyONa.
Tulu : balE, chaa parka.

The above phrase 'balE, chaa parka' is commonly used in friendly conversations, when you invite someone for tea. In fact, there is Tulu drama named 'balE, chaa parka', which made the phrase famous in Tulu speaking community.

English : Come, sit.
Kannada : banni, kootkoLLi.
Tulu : balE, kulle.

English : Can you bring a cup of water?
Kannada : nanage ondu loTa neeru tarteeya?
Tulu : yenk onji loTa neer kanapana?

A journey through Western Ghats

Yeshwantpur Mangalore Express(Train No.6515) left Bangalore at 7 30 in the morning. Train from Bangalore which runs at night stops at intermediate stations for few minutes. But the day train to Mangalore stops at the stations for some more time. But then if you have a good company, its a good time pass. Also, for me, the main purpose of this journey on a day train was to enjoy the panoramic views of Western Ghats.Bangalore-Mangalore night train(Train No.6517) reaches Mangalore via Mysore-Hassan. But the day train goes via Tumkur-Hassan route. Stations you will find in this route are Tumkur, Tiptur, Arasikere, Hassan, Sakaleshpur, Subrahmanya, Puttur and Bantwal. Train reached Hassan station at about 12 15 in the afternoon. Then we head towards Sakaleshpur. Yes, the same Sakaleshpur, which was immortalized in the film Mungaaru Male. If you had watched Mungaaru Male, then you would certainly remember the scene, in which our hero Ganesh rescues Devdas, the rabbit from a fast approaching train. This scene was shot here in Sakaleshpur railway station.

Next three 3 hours starting from Sakaleshpur to Subrahmanya was a enjoyable journey. Greenary all around you is a treat to watch. You will be watching pictureseque green paddy fields of Malnad and Areca nut palms all over.Soon the train enters the enchanting Western Ghats. When train passes through the ghats, it passes through 57 tunnels. Total length of these tunnels is 10.98 kms and the longest among these is of length 578 meters.On the way, you will find numerous streams, bridges which are at such a height, you say wow!, and tunnels carved out of rocks. When train enters the tunnel, passengers happily shout and you may want to wistle out loudly. Bridge and then a tunnel - this combination repeats several times during the journey. Further, the misty mountains, sparkling water bodies flowing from the hills are absolute treat to the eyes. Sometimes, landslides in this train route causes the train service to be suspended for some time. To avoid this, effort is on to build stone barricades, which will prevent the landslides affecting the rails.If you have not travelled in this route, catch this train. You will be in for a thrilling and enjoyable journey.

3 cheers to Rajkumar Hirani

Rajkumar Hirani impresses once again but this time with Aamir. Drifting away from Sanjay Datt and Munnabhai, he gives us a visual treat. Though based on Chetan Bhagat's Five Point Someone, Hirani has adapted the story well to suit the sensibilities of the film audience. So, if you have read the book, you will enjoy seeing the fictional characters - Alok, Hari and Ryan come to life, though with different names - Raju(Sharman Joshi), Farhan(R Madhavan) and Rancho(Aamir Khan). And if you haven't read the book, never mind, you will enjoy the movie too(your mind free of predicting next scenes!).

Best thing about Rajkumar Hirani's movies is the humorous way of conveying serious matters. That we have seen in Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai and 3 Idiots is no different. Most part of the movie makes you jump out of your seats and laugh out loud. But there are also scenes which makes you bring your hands closer for an applause.

If Munnabhai MBBS asked the doctors to be more humane in their treatment to patients, 3 Idiots asks us to be thoughtful when making career choices and do not succumb to pressures from various quarters. If we are not passionate about engineering and choose it, we will become those reluctant engineers. For Aamir, I thought this is an extension of what he had conveyed in Taare Zameen Par - one should follow his heart and excel in the work he loves. Film also mocks the education system, which sets a rat race among the students for jobs.

We can also spot some more similarities with Munnabhai MBBS. All Is Well mantra is to 3 Idiots, what Jadu Ki Jhappi was to Munnabhai MBBS. Prof.Viru Sahasrbuddhe(Boman Irani) reminds you of Dr.J.Asthana of Munnabhai MBBS and Rancho(Aamir) appears as a gentle version of Munna(Sanjay Datt). In this film, Hirani has retained the term Imperial in college name - Imperial College of Engineering just as in Imperial Institute of Medical Sciences in Munnabhai MBBS. One more thing I noticed in this movie is how well the director has connected the minute details in the film. I dont want to the give the details of the same as you will definitely find this out while watching the movie.

This movie may not herald a revolution in India in terms of career selection but defintiely will provide some food for thought for those parents who have only 2 career choices for their kids - Medicine or Engineering. Must watch for all age groups. Worth every rupee.

Maleyali Jotheyali Film Review

Hearthrob of Karnataka, Ganesh is back with his latest flick Maleyali Jotheyali. And this time, he looks to pass behind him, the poor box office records of his recent films.

Plot : Preetham(Ganesh) comes to Sakaleshpur to escape from his father who wants him to get married soon. On the way to Sakaleshpur, he meets two girls Anjali(Yuvika Choudhary) and Sandhya(Anjana Sukhani). Anjali is an introvert and Sandhya, the opposite. In order to impress Sandhya, he takes the help of Anjali. In the process, both Sandhya and Anjali start liking Preetham. Equations change when Preetham realizes that he is in love with Anjali.

Though there is nothing new in the sript and it is a plain triangular love story, there are many reasons for you to like the movie. Ganesh impresses with his spontaneous dialogue delivery and is touchy in emotional scenes. Another impressing act is of little girl Lucky, who befriends Preetham and both share their sorrows and happiness. Though you might have scene some of the best locations in Western Ghats in Mungaaru Male, there are some more for offer here.

Comedy combo of Ganesh and Sharan makes you laugh loud. The same jodi had proved their worth in Krishna. Ganesh has sung a song in this movie - HaaLaad HaaLaad Heartali Hosa Hudgeer HaavaLi - mocking his act of Devdas in Mungaaru Male. There are few glitches in the movie like that of stereotyped role of father for Rangayana Raghu. Colonel Thammaya(Dattatreya) reminds you of Colonel Subbayya in Mungaaru Male. But a fast paced script covers up these glitches. Even then, I thought climax of the movie could have been different. Anyway I give thumbs up for this Preetham Gubbi venture. Rain and greenary are once again a treat to the eyes. Have a enjoyable time watching Maleyali Jotheyali.

Probably, Tulu grama at Vishwa Tulu Sammelano 2009 in Ujire attracted more number of visitors. Tulu grama, spread across 8 acres of land in Ujire was called Ajjara Kallu. It refreshed my memories about the professions people were involved, some 10-15 years ago in most of the villages in Dakshina Kannada. Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani : Movie Review

A comedy movie, as projected by the posters of the movie, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani lives upto the expectations. Movie is fast paced and never seems boring. Rajkumar Santoshi is aware that primarily it is a comedy movie and he puts limited emotional scenes and it gels well. Few scenes here, may remind you of the great comedy movie of the 90s - Andaz Apna Apna.

Plot : Prem(Ranbir Kapoor) is the president of Happy Club of the town, which he runs along with his jobless friends. The motto of the Happy Club is to keep the people of the town happy. His gang of men also help in uniting the lovers, when faced opposition from their parents. Jennifer(Katrina Kaif), who initially mistakes Prem for a kidnapper, later becomes his good friend. He does everything to win over her - turns into a non-vegetarian from being a pure-vegetarian, finds himself a job, does his work sincerely, keeps aside time for his family to get himself the tag of achcha ladka from Jennifer! But all this goes in vein as Jennifer is in love with Rahul(Upen Patel).

In the meantime, Jennifer's parents are adamant on marrying her to someone else. But Prem comes to Jenni's rescue as the befitting president of Happy Club! But there are complications as Rahul's parents are also against him marrying Jenni. Will Jenni marry Rahul? What will be Prem's fate? To know answers to these questions watch the movie.

Kahani is not so ajab as you might have seen this type of triangular love stories before but definitely the comedy element is ghazab and that proves poora paisa vasool! Funny dialogues for most part of the film keeps audience in good homour. Few comedy sequences are - Stammering by Ranbir and Katrina, when they get emotional. But this creates funny misunderstandings! Salman Khan does a cameo and the best part here is when Ranbir hesitatingly introduces Katrina as his girl friend, Salman says why are you acting as if you are introducing my girl friend as yours! Prem turns into a non-vegetarian without knowing Jenni is a pure vegetarian! Prem's confession to Lord Jesus in broken English also tickles your funny bone. Comedy of errors in the party, when Prem is eager to dance with Jenni sets a laugh riot. Beautiful landscapes of Ooty, where the major portion of the film was shot, are a treat to watch. Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif make up a good onscreen pair. Fight sequence which is at the final part of the movie seems dragged. Climax of the movie well dealt, though in an unusual way. On the whole, this film is a complete entertainer. So, surely make up your time to watch it.

A Temple Without Walls

Sowthadka Mahaganapathi Temple, 20km from popular pilgrimage center, Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada, is unique in the sense that it has no temple structure. I am not aware of any other temple for which there is no temple structure.This temple nestled in tranquil natural surroundings is open round the clock for offering prayers, with simple worshipping opportunity to the public. Devotees themselves have the opportunity to perform pooja to Lord Ganapathi. It is not crowded as most of the popular temples are. With lush greenery around and Lord Ganapathi in middle of it, this place is ideal for meditation. If you are looking for calm, serene surroundings, this is the place for you. Well, I see these settings continuing the ancient Indian tradition of worshipping the nature. One can also see a lot of cows freely wandering around the place of worship. Monkeys can also be seen jumping from tree to tree. Prasada of the pooja is also offered to these animals. Thus, love towards animals is nurtured. Simplicity of this place is sure to delight you.There is also a park near the temple, where there is a statue of Lord Shiva.Bit of History : Long ago, a temple was in control of a Royal family. During one of the battles, the temple was destroyed. At that time, cowherds in and around this area took away the Mahaganapathi idol and started worshipping wherever they went and finally installing the idol here at Sowthadka. They were growing cucumber and during their worship started offering same to Lord Mahaganapathi of this temple. In Kannada, "sowthe" means cucumber and "adka" means meadow hence the name "Sowthadka". No temple structure has been allowed as per the traditional norms.

Manasaare Film Review

FYI : This is 200th post in Ee Prapancha.

Much awaited Kannada film Manasaare got released today. Film begins with song Ondu kanasu just like in Gaalipata. Neethu who was paired up with Diganth in Gaalipata, has acted in a guest role here. Whether it was to bring back the Gaalipata chemistry(which was by the way well received by the Kannada audience) here too? That is the question, director of the movie has to answer.

15-20 minutes from the beginning of the film is a good watch with comedy sequences featuring Diganth. But, soon the jovial mood in the film turns into a serious one. This continues for rest of the film canvas with tinges of comedy here and there.

Manohar(Diganth) is a jobless bachelor. He is in love with Bhamini(Neethu) but she deserts him for a well earning groom. Manohar being happy go lucky guy, never minds it. One night in Bangalore, Manohar is mistaken for a mental patient and taken away to a mental hospital in Malligepura in Kodagu. His efforts to prove himself sane prove futile. Even though he manages to escape from there, he comes back because of his love at first sight in the hospital on the day of escape! And now, he plans to elope with his lady love in the hospital van and of course, he succeeds too.

Devika(Aindrita) who is also a mental patient, hates all men and her reaction towards them is to stab them. She, unaware of Manohar's motives tries to stab him, once she thinks that she has been kidnapped. She insists on returning to hospital and on her way back to hospital, spends 2 days with him and needless to say, love blooms. Also, Devika recovers to normal mental health. And now, when everything is going smooth in Manohar's life, hospital authorities come to know that Manohar is mistaken for Mahendra, another mental patient. This infuriates Devika, who thinks that Manohar is cheating her. Manohar is evicted out of the hospital and his future seems gloomy. Well, then Devika comes to know that Manohar is a good guy and they live happily ever after.

Script as you might have realized by now is weak. Predictable sequences mar the interest of the audience. Also, songs seems to have been stuffed. In a 2 hour movie, you can imagine how difficult it is to put 7 songs. In a way songs tries to lower the pace of the movie, which is otherwise fast paced. Also, several sequences appear unnatural - like, it is quite easy to escape out of the mental hospital and come back again! Bride(Bhamini) confessing her love to other guy(Diganth), taking some time off from the wedding reception! Manohar's uncle wearing patient's dress and climbing hospital wall, to see his future daughter-in-law!

Songs have been well shot but that solely, seems to be the success mantra of Gandhinagar nowadays. Diganth walks away with good performance. Dialogues in north Karnataka lingo are homorous and makes you laugh. Kudos to Raju Thalikote. At the end of the movie, I thought keeping only 3-4 songs with little more on-screen chemistry between Diganth and Aindritha would have made the film much better. What say, folks?

After Gaalipata, director Yogaraj Bhat is gearing up for the release of his latest venture Manasaare. Manasaare literally means straight from heart in Kannada. Here is a first look on the audio of the film released recently.

Trinity of Mungaaru Male - Jayanth Kaykini, Mano Murthy and Yogaraj Bhat is back in Manasaare. Manasaare audio contains 7 songs. Except for one shloka in Sanskrit, lyrics for the remaining 6 songs is written by Kaykini and Bhat. 4 of them are slow tracks continuing the tradition of Mungaaru Male and Gaalipata - where majority of songs were so. ello maLeyaagideyendu tangaaLiyu hELutide(cool breeze is saying it has rained somewhere) is a solo sung by Sonu Nigam. Jayanth Kaykini seems to have hangover of Mungaaru Male. But well, that does seem only in the first line. Beautiful lyrics combined with Sonu's voice is a treat to listen. Glad to see Sonu pronouncing his Kannada correctly here. Music in the beginning of the song is amazing. Yogaraj Bhat has penned kaNNa haniyondige kenne maataaDide(cheek has a talk with tears) which has some new lines in lyrics and it is well sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Kay Kay. naa naguva modalEne(before I laugh), again by Bhat is also sung by Shreya Ghoshal. This song is yet another instance of Shreya's sweet voice.

Manasaare's title track naanu manasaare maruLanaagE iruvenu innu munde(I will be crazy to my heart's liking from now on) is less of music and more of singing abilities of Vikas Vashistha and Lakshmi Nagaraj. This song with small duration of about 2 minutes and 40 seconds has the potential of becoming a hit just like Kavithe song of Gaalipata did. After the melodious tunes of the above mentioned tracks, onde ondu nOTa saaku(one look is enough), a fast track does not impress. ondu kanasu khaalee peelee kaNNa munde heege oDutirabEku(one dream however crazy must be running in front of the eyes like this) written Jayanth Kaykini was the first song I liked in Manasaare. Reason for the liking may be since it was the first song I heard from Manasaare. Kunal Ganjawala who has proved his mettle singing fast tracks in Kannada has lended the voice along with Ananya Bhagat and Earl Edgar. Finally, Vijaya Prakash of Jai Ho fame has recited the shloka - sahanavavatu sahanav bhunattu. I am curious to know in which part of the film, Yogaraj has used this song. Newspapers have announced the release of Manasaare in next few weeks. Lets wait for that. All in all, Manasaare is sure to steal the hearts of Kannada music lovers. Financial Expert, a novel by well known writer R K Narayan is a good read. Like most of his novels, R K Narayan tells the story with homorous touch.

Plot: Story revolves around Margayya, who helps and advises poor villagers in getting loans from a Cooperative society. Before people getting loans allocated from the Cooperative society, he gives an advance amount for which he charges interest. These financial deeds are maintained in an accounts book by Margayya. Balu, Margayya's son is always upto some mischief. One fine day, in one of his playful acts, he dumps Margayya's accounts book into the gutter. Margayya is now unable to recover money from his clients as they insist on records in the accounts book. But Margayya earns wealth after various incidents like meeting up with Temple priest and Dr.Pal, a Socialogist. The events leading upto this is sure to tickle your funny bone. Dr.Pal is chiefly responsible for Margayya's success. Ironically, he along with Balu become responsible for Margayya's fall in the end.

Film Adaptation : There are few films which do justice to a popular book. This book's film adaptation in Kannada - Banker Margayya is one of those few. Though one cannot fully depict what the character is thinking in a film as in a book, I am sure even if you had read the book, you will equally enjoy the movie. Director T S Nagabharana has given attention to the details provided in the book, which makes you like the movie. With Lokesh, one of the finest actors in Kannada cinema, as Margayya you are in for a visual treat.

Yegdagella Aithe - A Spiritual Book by Belagere Krishna Shastri

'Yegdagella Aithe' in Kannada means 'Everything is there in Yoga'. Kannada book 'Yegdagella Aithe' by Belagere Krishna Shastri is a memoir of Shree Mukundooru Swamiji. As the author says Swamiji used to use this phrase, 'Yegdagella Aithe' more often in his talks, hence the name of the book.Belagere Krishna Shastri is witness to several miracles performed by Shree Mukundooru Swamiji. While reading the book you may face questions like 'What?', 'Whether it is real/possible?' Your logical mind, which is used to scientific explainations may refuse to accept the events described here. But, we having not seen such supernatural events does not mean that they are fake. Also, those phenomena for which we cannot give any scientific explaination just means those are the areas, which need to be explored. Even the author himself did not believe initially what people were saying about the miracles Swamiji performed. But if you keep your logical thinking aside and read Krishna Shastri's experiences as your own you will be amazed. In addition, there are instances in the book about how Swamiji used to explain ordinary people about spirituality using the language they understand better.

In 1949, Krishna Shastri came to Devanooru village in Kadur taluk of Chikmagalur district to work as a teacher. There he met Swamiji and his interactions with Swamiji is the content of the book. Mukundooru Swamiji, who never wanted publicity, also remained modest of his miracles. He acted as if he had not performed those at all. In the book, there are sayings, idioms in particular dialect of Kannada which is common to malnad and surrounding regions of Karnataka. So, if you are not from these places, you may find it new/difficult. But even then, this book is a good read for an amazing spiritual experience.

How to change DNS Server Configuration in BSNL Broadband?

If you are using a BSNL broadband connection, you may have experienced problems in hostnames not resolving into IP Addresses. You thus, end up seeing page requested is not being loaded. Problem is with the default BSNL DNS servers, which are often unresponsive.

To resolve these DNS related issues, just change the DNS configuration in your BSNL modem/DSL router.

Login to your BSNL modem/DSL router typing 192.168.1.1, which is BSNL DSL router IP, on your browser and username : admin.
DSL router configuration window opens. Click on DNS in Advanced Setup menu on left hand side.You get DNS Server Configuration window. There are Primary and Secondary DNS Servers configured. Change these to Open DNS servers : Primary - 208.67.222.222 and Secondary - 208.67.220.220. To know more about open DNS visit - opendns.com 3.Click on save and Reboot the modem/DSL router for the changes to take effect.

P.S: The procedure explained above for resolving DNS server related issue, is the one I followed to resolve it in UTStarcom ADSL 2+ Modem/Router, Model No : WA3002G4 got from BSNL.

Lakes of Mysore - Kukkarahalli and Kaaranji

Two famous lakes of Mysore are Kukkarahalli Lake and Karanji lake. Kukkarahalli lake located near Mysore University is spread across 62 hectares. Lake has a surrounding walkway which has stone benches for visitors. This is used by Mysoreans for morning walk, jogging. Here are some of the snaps of the lake.
Kaaranji or Karanji lake spread across 55 hectares has a giant fountain(Kaaranji in Kannada) at the center. Boating facility is also available here. But the biggest tourist attraction is the aviary located within the foreshore area of the lake. It is the biggest walk through aviary in India. Hornbills, peacocks, white-peacocks, turkeys and black swans are some of the birds found in this aviary. A walk through this aviary is a wonderful experience. Peocock spreading its tail feathers to reveal the 'eyes' is a treat to watch. You can also watch White peacocks climbing the trees around. Kaaranji lake surroundings buzzling with life is worth watch. Surely visit this lake, when you come to Mysore.

Bangalore Central Jail which is now converted into Freedom park was built in 1866 by the British. It occupied a site of approximately 21 acres. The jail has housed many illustrious leaders who fought for the freedom of our nation and for restoration of democracy during the emergency regime post independence. The jail compound included a watch tower in the center, barracks and other buildings like the hospitals, workshops etc.

Ooty Trip - Part 3 : Botanical Gardens, Dodda Betta, Shooting Medu

We had stayed in Coonoor the night before. So, on May 3 morning, plan was; two of us will go and park the car in Ooty. Then, those two will come back to Coonoor by bus. In case, you are wondering what is it all about, this was our arrangement to make sure that everyone in our group gets to enjoy the travel in Nilgiris Heritage train from Coonoor to Ooty. Shrinidhi and Deviprasad went to Ooty to park the car. Me, Suhas and Atheeth stayed back in Coonoor.

Nilgiri Heritage Train, Ooty

Nilgiri Heritage train(also called Nilgiri Toy train) from Mettupalyam arrives at Coonoor at 10 30 am and departs from there at 10 40 am. Tickets for the train are issued only half an hour before the departure. Anticipating the rush for tickets, two of us stood in the queue as there was a restriction that only 4 tickets will be issued per person. There were 2 types of seats - I class and II class, priced at Rs.76 and Rs.3 per person. We had bought tickets for I class, but did not find any drastic differences between the classes - each row of I class seats had 4 seats and II class row had 5 seats. Apart from that, I class seats were little more cushioned than the other.

As the train from Mettupalyam did not arrive on time, Coonoor railway station officials arranged for another small train starting from Coonoor which left at 10 45 am. Journey in the train which passes through tunnels, travels in middle of hills, was a nice experience though I would not term it as great. May be the hype around it created lot of expectations in me. In this journey, we took snaps of the landscapes of Ooty and of course, of the heritage train. I also shot several videos of the train travel, which eventually made me run out of camera batteries. Train travel was just over an hour, thus reaching the Ooty railway station at 11 50 am.

Ooty Lake :We had visited the Ooty lake on Day 1 of the trip in the evening. After hearing from boating co-ordinators that we need to wait for an hour for our turn, we dropped the idea of boating there. When Heritage train was reaching Ooty, we could spot the famous lake. After purchasing some books at Higgin Bothams at Ooty Railway station, we headed towards Ooty Botanical Gardens after picking the four wheeler, we had parked in Ooty.

Ooty Botanical Gardens : As it was a Sunday, entrance of famous Ooty Botanical Gardens was crowded. Ooty botanical gardens was full of trees of various heights, flowers of various colors and people from various backgrounds! Well, this makes an ideal picnic spot for family crowd. My camera batteries dried up after taking few snaps of the place. Now, only Nidhi's camera was operational.

Dodda Betta : Dodda Betta is 8km from Ooty Botanical gardens. Though the vehicles reach till the peak of the hill, people also prefer to walk to reach Dodda Betta peak. When we went there, we were welcomed by the traffic jam. So, after parking the vehicle some way behind, we climbed the hill. Dodda betta peak also has asphalted roads.

This was a surpise for me as I had always imagined ground at peaks of hills to remain natural. A telescope installed here, enables you to view the distant Coonoor town from here. After Dodda Betta, we are returning back to Bangalore, thinking thats the end of trip and no more places to be visited. But soon after leaving Ooty, we got down at Kamaraj Sagar dam and Shooting Medu. Realizing the difficulties in Kalhatti Ghat road, we had now chosen the Gudalur route to reach Mysore.

Kamaraj Sagar Dam : Also known as Sandynallah Reservoir, this apart from being a picnic spot, is also a good place of study for enviromentalists.

Shooting Medu : As suggested by its name, numerous Indian films have been shot here. Particularly, this place is ideal for song sequences. Surrounded by forests and mountains, this is a wonderful place. After that, Ford Fiesta was zooming towards Mysore. We realized after few minutes of drive that we had missed Pyakara lake, another shooting spot, seeing its board on our way.

Ooty Specialities :

Masala Tea : When in Ooty, you would notice tea shops almost everywhere. Why not, since it is home to numerous tea factories. Also, one wonders at the variety of tea flavours provided - Masala, Chocolate, Cardamon, Lemon and the list goes on. Well, we prefered Masala tea everywhere we went and the price is also uniform - Rs.5 per cup. So, surely wet your taste buds with variety of tea flavours when you visit Ooty.

Ooty Chocolates : We had received numerous requests from friends and relatives to bring Ooty home-made chocolates while leaving Bangalore. In Ooty, we had a difficult time in choosing the flavours! - Milk chocolates, Pista, Fruit and Nut - like tea flavours list goes on, here too. Once somebody in my office had brought Ooty chocolates which did not have any particular shape. But when we looked for them, they were are all in regular shape though not neatly cut - times are fast changing!

Language : Conversing with the locals is never a problem in Ooty. You can talk to them in Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi or English. People are very hospitable, indicating that they are good hosts.

Eucalyptus Oil : Nilgiris are also known for production of Eucalyptus oil. You can find it being sold virtually in every shop in Ooty.

Beautiful images from Ooty had filled our memory, when we were returning to Bangalore. It was around 12 15 am that night, when we reached home.

We first wanted to cover tourist places near Coonoor and Kotagiri (they are the other 2 popular hill stations after Ooty) before exploring Ooty, as it was crowded. Coonoor is 17 km away from Ooty and the first major attraction we covered here was Dolphin's nose.

Dolphin's nose : It is a view point 10km from Coonoor, which we covered on May 2nd in the morning. Though we did not find anything resembling its name, it is a great place with one half of the place offering a panoramic view of the surrounding hills and the other half filled with greenary of tea estates. Also, we could spot Catherine falls among the hills, which we were about to visit in later part of the day(though human accessible portion of the falls is different from what you see here).

Lamb's Rock : On our way back to Coonoor from Dolphin's nose, we visited Lamb's rock, which is yet another view point. It is just 2 km from Dolphin's nose. It provides view of the Coimbatore plains. We could spot a river from the telescope kept there. Now, don't ask me which river it is! After a brief interval there we were heading back to Coonoor.

Sim's Park : At the heart of the Coonoor town is the Sim's park, which is believed to be home to many flowering plants, pines, ferns and shrubs. Gigantic trees here, will catch your attention. Boating in the lake inside the park is a hit with the tourists. Otherwise, it is a place to just lay down in the grass and relax. After spending some time here and finishing our lunch in Coonoor, our next destination was Kotagiri.

Catherine Falls : Kotagiri which is 23 km from Coonoor is a small town. We needed to go past it to reach Catherine falls. After parking your vehicle in one of the tea estates, you need walk about 1-2 kms to reach the falls. This walk is one of the best as you will be walking along the area covered with greenary, hills and trees on one side and tea estates on the other. We travelled further to reach Kodanad viewpoint in the evening.

Kodanad Viewpoint : This place is a must visit for tourists. You can almost see the details of the geographical map of the region come to life. You can see the huge valley which dips down below and rises again. Also, one can see the Moyar river flowing, Karnataka Tamil Nadu state border and they say, you can also witness the point where Western and Eastern ghats meet.

One can also enjoy the view of Rangaswamy peak which is conical shaped peak and is also considered sacred according Hindu legends. As we had gone in the evening, plateaus below looked misty in sight. So, to get the clear picture I would recommend to go when there is bright sun. That was end of day 2 on our Ooty trip.

Ooty Trip - Part 1 : Road to Ooty

3 day long weekend on May 1, provided us with a perfect opportunity to explore the Nilgiris. On Friday morning, we were on our way to India's popular hill station, Ooty. As we did not wish to reach our destination in a hurry, we stopped, exclaimed at various places we found interesting, allowing the Ford fiesta to breathe easy.

First among these places was Nanjanagudu. After getting past royal city of Mysore, on way to Gundlupete you will find Nanjanagudu famous for its majestic Nanjundeshwara Temple. Bridge across river Kabini is what caught our attention. Well, there is not one but 3 bridges across river Kabini - two railway bridges one of which is not functional and one for motor vehicles to pass through. Railway bridge which is not used now, looks like a series archs.

Information board by South Western Railway near the bridge says - "It was built by Dalvoy Devraj in 1735 with brick, sand and stone adopting ancient Gothic style. It was strong and wide enough to carry road traffic as well as metre guage trains, which started running in 1889. This ancient bridge today stands as an engineering marvel, which bears testimony to the skills of those who built it. This bridge now over 270 years old and could very well be the oldest railway bridge in the world because the first railways was built only after 1825 and there were no other known cases of ancient road bridges having been used to carry railway traffic".

After Gundlupete, one enters the Bandipur forest. Nice roads in middle of the forest - it was place to take those photographs for Desktop backgrounds! Soon after crossing the Tamil Nadu border at Kakkanalla, travelling via Mudumalai forest area, we witnessed an area covered with gulmohar trees. Ground covered with Gulmohar flowers, giant trees and a stream nearby was a treat to our eyes.

Not only green pastures, a barren land on backdrop of hills was also on our visited list. We happened to see the Cactus flower there! On way to Ooty at Theppakadu junction, we had the option of choosing two roads to go to Ooty - shorter one via Kalhatti Ghat road or longer one passing via Gudalur. We chose the former without knowing the obstacles ahead. Kalhatti ghat road is the one where you have to negotiate 36 hair pin turns and the drive was daunting to say the least. With it started raining, it was more difficult. After crossing ghat road, we were cruising to Udhagamandalam going past road between tall, lanky trees - scenes most shot by Indian film fraternity.

First thing I could notice in Ooty was that it was very crowded place. But well, Udhagamandalam, Ootacamund, Whadacamund, Wotkymund or simply Ooty, is an exquisite place for tourists. Metaphors too fail to capture its vastness in words - Scotland of the East, Big Queen of the Nilgiris hardly suffice. More on Ooty and surrounding places in upcoming posts.

Here is the route we followed from Bangalore to reach Ooty : Bangalore - Mysore - Nanjanagudu - Gundlupete - Bandipur Forest - Mudumalai Forest - Theppakadu - Kalhatti Ghat - Ooty (for a easy drive you can avoid Kalhatti and go via Gudalur route)

BSNL DSL Router Username Reset Problem

If you are using BSNL broadband connection then you may have experienced a peculiar problem of username in the modem settings getting reset to 'multiplay' for unknown reasons. Due to this, Internet LED in the BSNL modem keeps blinking and you are unable to access the net. This shows up as Authentication Failure in PPPoE protocol status. To see the status of PPPoE protocol status and resolve this issue,

Login to your BSNL modem/DSL router typing 192.168.1.1, which is BSNL DSL router IP, on your browser and username : admin.
DSL router configuration window opens. On the left hand side of the window, click on WAN in Device Info menu. Check the first row(VPI/VCI - 0/35, Protocol - PPPoE) of the WAN info table displayed. Below image shows the status in normal working scenario. If the username is reset, Status column in this row displays Authentication Failure.
To resolve this error, click WAN in Advanced Setup menu. WAN Setup table appears. First row in this table displays settings for PPPoE(VPI/VCI - 0/35), click Edit at the end of this row.Clicking edit takes you to ATM PVC Configuration window, where you need to make sure that the value of VPI is 0 and of VCI is 35 and UBR Without PCR is selected as Service Category. Click Next button after the changes(if any).
After clicking next, Connection Type window appears. Make sure that PPP over Ethernet radio button is selected and LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING is selected as Encapsulation Mode. Click next.
After clicking next, PPP Username and Password window is displayed. Enter your Username provided during installation of the BSNL broadband connection by BSNL guys and password. Enter PPPoE Service Name as dataone and select AUTO as Authentication Method. Check Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports(Default Method). Click next after that.
Network and Adress Translation Settings window appears. Make sure Enable NAT and Enable Firewall check boxes are ticked. In Enable IGMP Multicast and WAN Service, see that Enable WAN Service check box is ticked. Enter Service Name as pppoe_0_35_1. Click next.
WAN Setup - Summary window appears which gives the summary of settings you just made. Click on save which opens a WAN Setup window(2nd image from top in this post), where in you need to click the Save/Reboot button for your changes to be reflected. Once the modem/DSL router comes up, you should be able to see Internet LED on that is stable and is not blinking. Now, you should be able to access the net.

Note: This problem was showing as Authentication Failure in WAN status previously. Recently, I observed even though WAN status showed PPPoE protocol status as Up, I was not able to access the internet. I found that username had been reset to multiplay and after changing the username, I was able to surf.

P.S: The procedure explained above to resolve BSNL DSL Router Username Reset problem, is the one I follow to resolve it in UTStarcom ADSL 2+ Modem/Router, Model No : WA3002G4 got from BSNL. I am not sure whether the same things apply to other DSL Router models provided by BSNL. Also, note that after change the username from 'Multiplay' to yours and reboot the modem, Wireless settings would have been reset, which need to be setup again.

Update 10/05/2009 : Fellow blogger Manoj has informed that the same problem occurs in UTSTARCOM UT300R2U modem(Type I), provided by BSNL.

Dr.Rajkumar - An Analysis of the phenomenon

Mayachandra, a corporate film maker based in Bangalore, has done a documentary about Kannada matinee idol Dr.Rajkumar named Dr.Rajkumar - An Analysis of The Phenomenon. Mayachandra, a Masters degree holder in Communication from Emerson College, Boston, and her team took over 2 years to make the film with extensive research and collation of exclusive footage and memorabilia about Rajkumar. This film has been screened in Chicago, Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram film festivals. DVD release function of the short film was jointly organized by May Flower media house and Information Department, Government of Karnataka at Badami house, Bangalore, last Sunday. Documentary was also screened after the DVD release.

Here are some highlights on the film on one of the biggest stars in Indian Cinema.

Kannada actor, Ramesh Aravind has lended his voice to the documentary in English.

Views on Dr.Raj from Amitabh Bachchan, Kannada actor Vishnuvardhan, playback singer P B Sreenivos, director Bhagavan, writers U R Ananthamurthy, K S Nisar Ahmed, Jayanth Kaikini, members of Dr.Rajkumar's family, doctors who treated Dr.Raj in his last days, Vivek Javali and Bhujanga Shetty and few ardent fans.

As Prof Nisar Ahmed says Rajkumar won the hearts of millions of Kannadigas with songs like Naaniruvude Nimagaagi and Huttidare Kannada Naadalli Huttabeku.

Dr.Bhujanga Shetty points out that after Rajkumar donating his eyes, there was steep raise in eye donations in Karnataka.

Tiptur Ramaswamy explains how dedicatedly Rajkumar used to rehearse for his roles in theatre dramas early in his career.

When he went to watch his first film 'Bedara Kannappa' in a movie hall in Mysore, Rajkumar wore a turban so that nobody could identify him.

U R Ananthamurthy tells how humble Raj was even though he had attained superstar status - When Karnataka Government wanted to fecilitate him with the first Karnataka Ratna award, he obliged only after his wish of Government first conferring the award on Kuvempu, first Jnaanapeetha awardee in Kannada was fulfilled. He says Rajkumar was clearly aware of the existence of literary world in Karnataka and was very humble about his achievements.

Above all, Dr.Rajkumar was a great human being, who ruled over the hearts of people of Karnataka for over 50 years and continue to inspire generations.

Savari Film Review

When does a man understands meaning of life? When does he realize his goal for life? Well, Savari, a Kannada film released last week tries to find answers for these eternal questions haunting mankind. Janaki(Kamalini Mukherjee) is a doctor who finds meaning for her life in serving the needy whereas Abhiram(Raghu Mukherjee) lives in his own world seeking comfort for himself only. Wait, does it sound similar like numerous love stories you had watched before. Well, its not the same story here; it touches the viewers by telling the message of universal love in a very simple way.

Though Abhi is aware of Janaki's service for the soceity, he does not appreciate it and does not understand why one has to do so. Whenever he does help someone, it would be only to impress her. Our hero proposes Janaki many a times without any success. When Janaki does intend to share her feelings for him, they break off and Janaki deserts him. Abhi goes in search of her accompanied by Seenu(Srinagar Kitti). His journey for getting back his love is rest of Savari. In his journey to find her, he finds his purpose for life. When he sees both life and death closely, he is moved. His thoughts about the world and people evolve. He comes to know exactly why Janaki left him. Srinagar Kitti who plays comical counterpart to Raghu is quite a revelation in this film. Sadhu Kokila, Mainavathi too add the comical element. Mukherjee couple make a nice onscreen pair. C R Simha, Karibasavayya, Loknath have done their bit. Its no surprise, if the film stimulates a thought process once you have left the movie hall.

Music composition for the movie is good too. I particularly liked 2 numbers - Ale Ale Ale Aleyo and Marali Mareyaagi. Scenes shot in picturesque Malnad in Karnataka have come out well. A definite watch for all Kannada movie goers.

Souramaana Yugaadi, Bisu Parba, Vishu and Tamil New Year

It is Souramaana Yugaadi tomorrow. This day is being celebrated as the beginning of new year in parts of Tulu Nadu (Dakshina Kannada/Mangalore, Udupi and Kasaragod) and also in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. In Tulu Nadu, it is called Bisu Parba and in Kerala, Vishu. Since Souramana Yugaadi, as the name suggests is observed according to Solar calender, this festival is being celebrated on April 14 every year.

In Tulu Nadu, this festival is an occasion for the farmers to show their gratitude towards Mother Nature. Harvest from their fields is kept in a room and worshipped. Gathering of harvest thus worshipped is called 'Bisu Kani'. This way of worshipping the nature is also observed in temples of Tulu Nadu. This day also marks the beginning of the next season for crops in this region. 'Moode' is the delicacy of Tuluvas for this occasion. Charitable deeds too are part of the tradition.

Hamsageethe - Tale of an Indian Classical Singer

TaRaSu or T R Subbarao is a big name in Kannada literature. His novels have been a big hit among Kannada readers and some of them have been made into films like - Aakasmika, Chandavalliya Thota, Gaali Maathu, Naagara Haavu, Benkiya Bale, Masanada Hoovu and Hamsa Geethe in Kannada. I recently read his novel Hamsa Geethe and was moved. Hamsa Geethe was made into Hindi Film, Basant Bahar as early as in 1956. It was made into a Kannada movie, Hamsa Geethe in 1975, by well known director G V Iyer with Anant Nag playing the lead role. Hamsa Geethe is the story of fictional character, Venkata Subbayya, depicted as a singer in the court of rulers of Chitradurga, the Nayakas.

Novel is in first person narration of the author himself, going in search of information pertaining to Bhairavi Venkata Subbayya. Initially, you will feel what was the need to bring present day scenarios into this historical fictional story. But then once you finish off reading the book, you will realize why it was done so. The novel is primarily about the life of Venkata Subbayya and there are references about the concepts of Classical music. But, even if you are not a fan of Carnatic/Hindusthani music, once you complete reading the work, you may want to listen to the Bhairavi Raaga.Plot : TaRaSu's friend Raghavendra Rao gets a photocopy of some old legal document, which says about the gifting of plot of land near Toreyooru(in Chitradurga district) to Venkata Subbayya by Tippu Sulthan. When Venkata Subbayya refuses to sing before Tippu and instead cuts off his tongue, Tippu is moved. As a mark of his respect towards the great singer, Tippu gifts the land to him. Curious to know more about the life of Venkata Subbayya, TaRasu starts off his journey to find details about the singer, contacting various people in and around Chitradurga like chief priest of Ekanaatheshwari Temple, drama artist Chinnappa etc.

Venkata Subbayya's childhood, his music competition with his own guru, Thirumalayya, his firm decision to not to sing in the court of Nayakas after a heart-rending incident, his search of guru once Thirumalayya departs, his hard work to become a great singer is well depicted and TaRaSu takes the readers to a different aesthetic level. In the end, episode of Tippu-Venkata Subbayya's face-off is touchy. Though the incidents in Venkata's life are not in chronological order in the novel, this does not alter the flow.

Advaitha philosophy(or non-duality) consolidated by Adi Shankaraachaarya is also briefly discussed in the novel. Paulo Coelho in his famous work, The Alchemist talks about similar school of thought. Also, there is a mention that before the times of Tyagaraja, Shyama Shastri and Muttu Swamy Dixit there was no differentiation of streams in Indian Classical music like Carnatic and Hindusthaani. Even now, TaRaSu asserts that though the names of the raagas are different in these streams, they are basically the same.

I had seen the Kannada movie Hamsa Geethe before reading the novel. Even then, I liked the novel more than the film. Also, having been to Chitradurga fort added a familiar feeling whenever the author described about the places in Chitradurga and I was thrilled.

If you get a chance to read this novel by TaRaSu, jump on it. I have no doubt in my mind to say that it is one of the best novels to have been written in Kannada.

Gmail now in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam

Gmail is the latest addition to the Google's services(Google Search, Orkut, Blogger), which provides transliteration option for Indian Languages. Now you can compose your mails in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu or Malayalam by clicking icon showing an Indian language character in formatting options bar.
To enable this feature,
1.Go to Settings, at the top of gmail window
2.Go to General tab
3.Check the Enable Transliteration checkbox
4.Select the default transliteration language
Problem with Google Transliteration: Google transliteration has some inherent flaws in its coversion of English letters to Indic. What I have observed when typing Kannada using Google transliteration is that, there is inconsistent transliteration of vowels and consonants of Indian languages written in English script. Following are the examples to illustrate the problem in Google transliteration. I have compared this with the transliteration provided by Baraha software.

1.Google - nenapidi - ನೆನಪಿಡಿ
Baraha - nenapidi - ನೆನಪಿಡಿ
Here 'i' is interpreted as 'ಇ' by Google transliteration

But in another case,
Google - ramaNiya - ರಮಣೀಯ
Baraha - ramaNiya - ರಮಣಿಯ
Here 'i' is interpreted as 'ಈ' by Google transliteration
But in both cases, Baraha interprets 'i' as 'ಇ'

2.Google - kaDDaaya - ಕಡ್ಡಾಯ
Baraha - kaDDaaya - ಕಡ್ಡಾಯ
Here 'D' is interpreted as 'ಡ' by Google transliteration

But in other situation,
Google - ODu - ಓದು
Baraha - ODu - ಓಡು
Here 'D' is interpreted as 'ದ' by Google transliteration
But in both cases, Baraha interprets 'D' as 'ಡ'

Note that in Google transliteration you can change to the required vowel/consonant when you do a backspace on the word just transliterated. This time google provides pop down list of optional transliterated words to choose from. But doing this most of the time can be a tedious task and sometimes, you dont get the word you are looking for in the pop down list. On the positive note, one can notice that google transliteration is trying to provide a transliterated word, which is most commonly used or which is in the dictionary of that language. This is similar to the technique which is commonly used in typing messages in mobile phones(known as the iTap or T9 word prediction technology). But unlike English, in case of Indian languages what you speak is what you write. There is no difference between the way you write and pronounce as in English. So, I still prefer baraha to type in Kannada and then paste the unicode text in the applications, I am using.

Hi Folks,

Fed up with the age old default blogger template, I thought its time to move on. I was all at sea, when I began my journey of template hunting. Finally, I was bowled over by this 3 column template. During my rigorous R&D to find a new template, I found that number of wordpress templates available are far higher than blogger counterparts and one is also astonished by the sheer variety of wordpress templates present on the net. Back to blogger, do let me know your opinions on this new look and feel of Ee Prapancha!

ಅದಲು ಬದಲು : ಕಳೆದ ಬಾರಿ ಕೆಲವೊ೦ದು ಆಟಗಾರರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವ೦ತ ರಾಜ್ಯ/ನಗರದ ತ೦ಡಗಳಿ೦ದ ಆಡದೇ ಬೇರೆ ತ೦ಡಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಇವರಲ್ಲಿ ಇಬ್ಬರ ತ೦ಡ ಬದಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಳೆದ ಬಾರಿ ಬೆ೦ಗಳೂರು ತ೦ಡವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಸಿದ್ದ ಜ಼ಹೀರ್ ಖಾನ್ ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಮು೦ಬೈ ತ೦ಡದಿ೦ದ ಆಡಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಮು೦ಬೈ ತ೦ಡದ ಪರವಾಗಿ ಆಡಿದ್ದ ಕೊಡಗಿನ ಕುವರ ರಾಬಿನ್ ಉತ್ತಪ್ಪ ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಬೆ೦ಗಳೂರು ತ೦ಡದಿ೦ದ ಬ್ಯಾಟ್ ಮಾಡಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದು ಬೆ೦ಗಳೂರು ಹಾಗೂ ಮು೦ಬೈ ತ೦ಡಗಳು ಈ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಆಟಗಾರರನ್ನು ಅದಲು ಬದಲು ಮಾಡಿದ ಫಲ. ಕಳೆದ 2008 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅ೦ತರ್ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಬಿನ್ ಯಶಸ್ಸು ಗಳಸಿದಿದ್ದರೂ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ನ ಈ ಪ್ರಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಡೆಗಣಿಸಲಾಗದು. ಹಾಗೂ ಮು೦ದಿನ ಟಿ20 ವಿಶ್ವ ಕಪ್ ಗೆ ತಾಲೀಮಾಗಿ ಐ ಪಿ ಎಲ್ ಕೂಟದ ಪ೦ದ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನವನ್ನು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಬಹುದು. ಕಳೆದ ಬಾರಿ ಹರ್ಭಜನ್ ಸಿ೦ಗ್ ರ ಶ್ರೀಶಾ೦ತ್ ಕಪಾಳ ಮೋಕ್ಷ ಭಾರಿ ವಿವಾದವನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟು ಹಾಕಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಬೆನ್ನು ನೋವಿನಿ೦ದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕಿ೦ಗ್ಸ್ XI ಪ೦ಜಾಬ್ ತ೦ಡದ ಶಾ೦ತ ಕುಮಾರನ್ ಶ್ರೀಶಾ೦ತ್ ಆಡುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ನಾಯಕನ ಪಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಕುತ್ತು : ಬೆ೦ಗಳೂರು ರಾಯಲ್ ಚ್ಯಾಲೆ೦ಜರ್ಸ್ ನ ಕಳೆದ ಬಾರಿಯ ಕಳಪೆ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನದಿ೦ದ ನಾಯಕ ರಾಹುಲ್ ದ್ರಾವಿಡ್ ತ೦ಡದ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಾಪಕರಾದ ವಿಜಯ್ ಮಲ್ಯರ ಕೆ೦ಗಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಗುರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಬಾರಿ ತ೦ಡದ ನಾಯಕತ್ವವನ್ನು ಇ೦ಗ್ಲೆ೦ಡ್ ನ ಕೆವಿನ್ ಪೀಟರ್ಸನ್ ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎ೦ಬ ಘೋಷಣೆ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಹೊರಬಿದ್ದಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಇ೦ಗ್ಲೆ೦ಡ್ ತ೦ಡವನ್ನು ಭಾರತದ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಆಡಿದಾಗ ಸೋಲಿನ ದವಡೆಯಿ೦ದ ಪಾರು ಮಾಡಲಾಗದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಇ೦ಗ್ಲೆ೦ಡ್ ತ೦ಡದ ಕೋಚ್ ಪೀಟರ್ ಮೂರ್ಸ್ ಅವರೊ೦ದಿಗಿನ ಭಿನ್ನಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಗಳಿ೦ದ ನಾಯಕ ಸ್ಥಾನದಿ೦ದ ಕೆಳಗಿಳಿದ ಆಟಗಾರನಿಗೆ ಈ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿ ಕೊಡುವುದೇ ಉಚಿತವೇ?

ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳು : ಕಳೆದ ಬಾರಿ ಎಲ್ಲರ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ತಲೆಕೆಳಗೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಜೈಪುರ್ ತ೦ಡ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಬಾಚಿಕೊ೦ಡಿದ್ದು ಈಗ ಇತಿಹಾಸ. ಈ ಸಾಧನೆಗೆ ಶೇನ್ ವಾರ್ನ್ ರ ಚತುರ ನಾಯಕತ್ವವೂ ಕಾರಣವಾಯಿತೆನ್ನಿ. ಈ ಬಾರಿ ತ೦ಡಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ಪ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯಾಗಿದೆಯಷ್ಟೆ. ಜೈಪುರ್ ಹೊರತಾಗಿ ಕಳೆದ ಬಾರಿ ಉಪಾ೦ತ್ಯ ತಲುಪಿದ್ದ ಪ೦ಜಾಬ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಅ೦ತಿಮ ಪ೦ದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೆಣಸಾಡಿದ ಧೋನಿಯ ಚೆನ್ನೈ ಪಡೆ ನೆಚ್ಚಿನ ತ೦ಡಗಳಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಕಳೆದ ಬಾರಿ ಆಡಮ್ ಗಿಲ್ಕ್ರಿಸ್ಟ್, ಆ೦ಡ್ರ್ಯೂ ಸೈಮ೦ಡ್ಸ್, ಹರ್ಶೆಲ್ ಗಿಬ್ಬ್ಸ್ ಮು೦ತಾದ ಘಟಾನುಘಟಿಗಳಿದ್ದೂ ಹೈದರಾಬಾದ್ (ಡೆಕ್ಕನ್ ಚಾರ್ಜರ್ಸ್) ತ೦ಡ ಅ೦ಕ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊನೆಯ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು. ಅದರ ಮೇಲಿನ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಬೆ೦ಗಳೂರು (ರಾಯಲ್ ಚ್ಯಾಲೆ೦ಜರ್ಸ್) ತ೦ಡದ್ದು. ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಈ ತ೦ಡಗಳು ಹೇಗೆ ಮುನ್ನಡೆಯುತ್ತವೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದನ್ನು ನೋಡಬೇಕು. ಶಾರುಖ್ ಖಾನ್ ಮಾಲಕತ್ವದ ಕೊಲ್ಕೊತ್ತಾ ನೈಟ್ ರೈಡರ್ಸ್ ತ೦ಡ ಐ ಪಿ ಎಲ್ ನ ಪ್ರಪ್ರಥಮ ಪ೦ದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆ೦ಗಳೂರು ತ೦ಡಕ್ಕೆ ಹೀನಾಯ ಸೋಲುಣಿಸಿದ್ದರೂ ನ೦ತರದ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅ೦ಥ ಆಟ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಪ೦ದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನ್ಯೂ ಜೀಲ್ಯಾ೦ಡಿನ ಬ್ರೆ೦ಡನ್ ಮೆಕ್ಕಲಮ್ ಅವರು ಐ ಪಿ ಎಲ್ ನ ಪ್ರಪ್ರಥಮ ಶತಕವನ್ನು(ಅಜೇಯ 158) ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದ್ದು ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ. ಉಳಿದ೦ತೆ ದೆಹಲಿ ತ೦ಡ ಸೆಮಿ ಉಪಾ೦ತ್ಯ ತಲುಪಿತ್ತು ಹಾಗೂ ಮು೦ಬೈ ತ೦ಡ ಐದನೇ ಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ತೃಪ್ತಿ ಪಡಬೇಕಾಯಿತು.

ಕಳೆದ ಸಲದ ಕೂಟ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ನ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಪ್ರಯೋಗ. ಜನರಿಗೂ ಹೊಸತು. ಕಳೆದ ಬಾರಿಯೇ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟೂ ಸ೦ಚಲನವನ್ನೂ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದ್ದ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಕೂಟವಿದು. ಆದ್ದರಿ೦ದ ಈ ಸಲದ ಐ ಪಿ ಎಲ್ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಿವಾದಗಳು/ತಿಕ್ಕಾಟಗಳ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಪ್ರೇಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ರಸದೌತಣವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ೦ಶಯವಿಲ್ಲ.

ಅವಿರತ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾನದವರು ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 1, 2009 ರ೦ದು ಗಿರೀಶ್ ಕಾಸರವಳ್ಳಿಯವರ ಗುಲಾಬಿ ಟಾಕೀಸ್ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಮಲ್ಲೇಶ್ವರ೦ನ ’ಶ್ರೀಗ೦ಧ’ ಪ್ರಿವ್ಯೂ ಥೀಯಟರ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಚಿತ್ರದ ಬಗೆಗಿನ ನನ್ನ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ೦ಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಕು೦ದಗನ್ನಡ(ಕು೦ದಾಪುರ ಕನ್ನಡ)ದಲ್ಲೇ ಸ೦ಭಾಷಣೆಯಿದೆ. ಕು೦ದಾಪುರ, ಬೈ೦ದೂರು ಬಳಿ ಚಿತ್ರಿತವಾದ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರ, ಗುಲಾಬಿಯು(ಉಮಾಶ್ರೀ) ಚಕ್ಲಿ ಮೀನಿಗಾಗಿ(ಸಿಗಡಿ ಮೀನು) ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಡುಕುವುದರಿ೦ದ ಪ್ರಾರ೦ಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಗುಲಾಬಿಗೆ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಹುಚ್ಚು. ಆದ್ದರಿ೦ದ ಮೊದಲು ಸಿಗಡಿ ಮೀನಿಗೆ ಬೆಲೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಯಿತೆ೦ದು ಮೀನು ಕೊಳ್ಳದಿದ್ದರೂ ನ೦ತರ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಕ್ರಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಮು೦ದಾಗುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಕಾರಣ:ಹೊಸ ಸಿನಿಮಾದ ಸ೦ಜೆಯ ಆಟ (ಶೋ) ತಪ್ಪಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ೦ದು. ಸೂಲಗಿತ್ತಿಯಾದ ಗುಲಾಬಿ ತಾನು ವಾಸಿಸುವ ಕುದ್ರು(ದ್ವೀಪ)ವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಬೇಕಾದವಳು. ಸಿನಿಮಾ ನೋಡುವಾಗ ಯಾವುದಕ್ಕೂ ಗಮನ ಕೊಡದ ಗುಲಾಬಿಯನ್ನು ಹೆರಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿಸಲು ಊರಿನ ಸಿರಿವ೦ತರೊಬ್ಬರಿಗೆ, ಅವಳನ್ನು ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಹಾಲ್ ನಿ೦ದ ಬಲವ೦ತವಾಗಿ ಎತ್ತಿಕೊ೦ಡು ತರಲು ಹರಸಾಹಸವೇ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಗುಲಾಬಿಯ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಯಾಗಿ ಸಿರಿವ೦ತ ಹೆ೦ಗಸು ಗುಲಾಬಿಗೆ ಬಣ್ಣದ ಟಿ.ವಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಡಿಶ್ ಅನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

ಗುಲಾಬಿಯ ಗ೦ಡ ಮೂಸಾ(moosa) ಎರಡನೇ ಮದುವೆಯಾಗಿ ಗುಲಾಬಿಯನ್ನು ಕಡೆಗಣಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಬಣ್ಣದ ಟಿ.ವಿ ಯ ಆಗಮನದ ನ೦ತರ ಗುಲಾಬಿಯ ಮನೆಗೆ ಜನರ ದ೦ಡೇ ದ೦ಡು. ಮೊದಮೊದಲು ಅನ್ಯ ಧರ್ಮೀಯಳು ಎ೦ದು ಮನೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಕಾಲಿಡಲು ಹಿ೦ಜರಿದರೂ ನ೦ತರ ಗುಲಾಬಿಯ ಮನೆ ’ಗುಲಾಬಿ ಟಾಕೀಸ್’ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಮೂಸಾ ಕೂಡಾ ಗುಲಾಬಿಯ ಈಗಿನ ಸಿರಿವ೦ತಿಕೆಗೆ ಮರುಳಾಗಿ ತನ್ನ ಮೊದಲನೇ ಹೆ೦ಡತಿಯ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಇರಲು ಪ್ರಾರ೦ಭಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ನೇತ್ರು (ಎಮ್.ಡಿ ಪಲ್ಲವಿ) ಗುಲಾಬಿಯ ನೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಗೆಳತಿ. ದೂರದ ದುಬೈನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಗ೦ಡ, ಸಾಲದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಅತ್ತೆಯ ಕಿರಿಕಿರಿ ಇವೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ಸಹಿಸಿಕೊ೦ಡು ಬದುಕುತ್ತಿರುವ ನೇತ್ರುವಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ನೋವುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಗುಲಾಬಿಯ ಸ್ನೇಹ ಪೂರಕವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಮೂಸಾ, ದುಬೈಯ ಸುಲೈಮಾನ್ ಸಾಹುಕಾರನ ಹಡಗಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೇಲ್ವಿಚಾರಕ. ಯಾ೦ತ್ರೀಕೃತ ಮೀನುಗಾರಿಕೆ ನಡೆಸುವ ಸುಲೈಮಾನ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ, ಹಿ೦ದಿನಿ೦ದಲೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೀನುಗಾರಿಕೆ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊ೦ಡು ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಸಮಧಾನವಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಕೆಲ ವೇಳೆ ಸಣ್ಣ ಜಗಳಗಳಿಗೆ ಆಸ್ಪದ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇ೦ಥಾ ಘರ್ಷಣೆಗಳ ಬೆನ್ನಲ್ಲೇ ಬರುವ ಕಾರ್ಗಿಲ್ ಯುದ್ಧ ಜನರ ಭಾವನೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುತ್ತದೆ ಎ೦ಬುದನ್ನು ಕಾಸರವಳ್ಳಿ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಜೊತೆ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ನೇತ್ರು ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗುವುದು, ಮೂಸಾ ನು ನಾಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗುವುದು ಹಲವಾರು ಅನುಮಾನಗಳಿಗೆ ಎಡೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಕೊಡುತ್ತವೆ. ಚಿತ್ರದ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗುಲಾಬಿಯನ್ನು ಬಲವ೦ತವಾಗಿ ಅವಳ ಮನೆಯಿ೦ದ ಎತ್ತಿಕೊ೦ಡು ದ್ವೀಪದಿ೦ದ ಹೊರಹಾಕುವುದು, ಚಿತ್ರ ಶುರುವಾದಾಗ ಅವಳನ್ನು ಹೆರಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿಸಲು ಚಿತ್ರ ಮ೦ದಿರದಿ೦ದ ಎತ್ತಿಕೊ೦ಡು ಬರುವುದು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ವಿಪರ್ಯಾಸವಾಗಿ ಕ೦ಡು ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. 1999ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸರಕಾರವು ಯಾ೦ತ್ರೀಕೃತ ಮೀನುಗಾರಿಕೆಗೆ ಪರವಾನಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿ, ಜನರ ಗಮನವನ್ನು ಬೇರೆಡೆ ಸೆಳೆಯಲು ಬಣ್ಣದ ಟಿವಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿ ಮನೆಗೆ ಕೊಡಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸುವುದನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರದ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಚಿತ್ರವು ಮಾನವನ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ ಸ೦ವೇದನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಿಡಿದ ಕನ್ನಡಿಯ೦ತಿದೆ.

ನಿಮ್ಮ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಡುಗಳು, ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ಅ೦ಶಗಳು ಯಾಕಿಲ್ಲ ಎ೦ಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆ ಅ೦ಶಗಳನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಚಿತ್ರ ಒಳಗೊ೦ಡರೆ ಅದು ಕಾಸರವಳ್ಳಿ ಚಿತ್ರ ವಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನೀವು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಈಗ ಹೇಗೆ ಅಭಿಮಾನದಿ೦ದ ಗುರುತಿಸುತ್ತೀರೋ ಹಾಗೆ ಗುರುತಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಡುಗಳು ಭಾವನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಇವು ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಇರಬೇಕು ಎ೦ದು ಘ೦ಟಾಘೋಶವಾಗಿ ಸಾರುತ್ತವೆ. ಚಿತ್ರವು ನೈಜ ಅಭಿವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ನೋಡುಗರನ್ನು ಚಿ೦ತನೆಗೆ ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸಬೇಕೇ ಹೊರತು ನಾ ಹೇಳುವುದೇ ಸರಿ ಎ೦ಬ ಸ೦ದೇಶ ನೀಡಬಾರದು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ನಿಮ್ಮ ಚಿತ್ರ ಹೇಗೆ ನೈಜವಾಗಿ ಮೂಡಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ ಎ೦ಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಯಕ ಅಥವಾ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳು ಕೇವಲ ಸ೦ಭಾಷಣೆ ನೀಡಲು ಮಾತ್ರ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ಆದರೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಸಿನಿಮಾಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳು ಏನಾದರೊ೦ದು ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಗುಲಾಬಿ ಸ೦ಭಾಷಿಸುವಾಗ ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಒಗೆಯುವುದು, ಅಡಿಗೆ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಮು೦ತಾದ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತಾಳೆ ಮತ್ತು ಈ ಅ೦ಶವನ್ನು ಹಳೆಯ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನೀವು ಗಮನಿಸಬಹುದು ಎ೦ದು ತಮ್ಮ ಗುಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ವೈದೇಹಿಯವರ ಗುಲಾಬಿ ಟಾಕೀಸ್ ಎ೦ಬ ಕಥೆ ಆಧಾರಿತ ಚಿತ್ರವಾದರೂ ಮೂಲ ಕಥೆಗೂ ಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕೂ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವಿದೆ. ಇದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಿಕ ವಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಚರ್ಚೆ ನಡೆಯಿತ೦ತೆ - ಒಬ್ಬ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಮೂಲ ಕಥೆಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟೊ೦ದು ಮಾರ್ಪಾಡು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದೇ? ಎ೦ದು.

ನಿಮ್ಮ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಲಾವಿದರನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ ಎ೦ಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಉತ್ತರಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ನಾನು ನೋಡುವುದು ಕಲಾವಿದರು ಕ್ಯಾಮೆರಾ ಮು೦ದಿದೆಯೆ೦ಬ ಅರಿವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ನೈಜವಾಗಿ ಅಭಿನಯಿಸಿತ್ತಾರೆಯೇ ಎ೦ದು. ಗುಲಾಬಿ ಟಾಕೀಸ್ ಗೆ ಅವಿಭಜಿತ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಯಾಮರಾ ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊ೦ಡು ಸುತ್ತಾಡಿ ಕಲಾವಿದರಿಗೆ ತಮಗೆ ಏನು ತೋಚಿದೆಯೋ ಅದನ್ನು ನಟಿಸಿ ಎ೦ದು ಹೇಳಿ, ಚಿತ್ರೀಕರಿಸಿ ನ೦ತರ ಪಾತ್ರಧಾರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ಗುಲಾಬಿ ಟಾಕೀಸ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಉಮಾಶ್ರೀ ಹೊರತು ಪಡಿಸಿದರೆ ಮಿಕ್ಕೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರಿಗೆ ಹೊಸಬರು ಎ೦ದು ನುಡಿದರು.

ಪ್ರಸಕ್ತ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ವರದಿಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಈಚೆಗೆ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ವರದಿಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ಮು೦ದೆಯೇ ನಡೆದವೇನೋ ಎ೦ಬ ಭಾವನೆ ತರಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ವರದಿಗಳು ಆಯಾ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ, ವಾಹಿನಿ ಗಳ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ನಿಲುವುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ವರದಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ ಎ೦ಬುದನ್ನು ನಾವು ಗಮನಿಸಬೇಕು. ಎಲ್ಲೋ ನಡೆದ ಘಟನೆಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆಗೆ ಇಳಿಯುವ ಜನ ಆ ಘಟನೆಯ ಪೂರ್ವಾಪರಗಳನ್ನು ಯೋಚಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ನಾವೇಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟಿಸಬೇಕು ಎ೦ದು ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತಾವು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಲೂ ಹೋಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ 70ರ ಅಥವಾ 80ರ ದಶಕದ ಘಟನೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಾವು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟ ಚಿತ್ರಣ ಹಾಗೂ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊ೦ದಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಈಗಿನ ಘಟನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಾವು ಹಾಗೆ ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಿಸಲು ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಏಕೆ೦ದರೆ ನಾವು ಅವುಗಳ ಭಾಗವಾಗಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎ೦ದು ತಮ್ಮ ಯೋಚನಾ ಲಹರಿಯನ್ನು ಹರಿಯಬಿಟ್ಟರು.

ಒಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾನುವಾರ ಸ೦ಜೆ ನಡೆದ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ, ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದವರ ಮೆದುಳಿಗೆ ಮೇವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿತೆನ್ನಲು ಅಡ್ಡಿಯಿಲ್ಲ.

ಕನ್ನಡ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರವು ಬೆ೦ಗಳೂರಿನ ರವೀ೦ದ್ರ ಕಲಾಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಆವರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮಾರಾಟ ಮೇಳವೊ೦ದನ್ನು ಏರ್ಪಡಿಸಿದೆ. ಈ ಮೇಳವು ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 7 ರಿ೦ದ 10 ರ ತನಕ ನಡೆಯಲಿದೆ. ಕನಿಷ್ಟ 50 ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆ/ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಿದ ಪ್ರಕಾಶಕರು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮಳಿಗೆಗಳನ್ನು ತೆರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಶೇ.25 ರಿ೦ದ 60ರ ತನಕ ರಿಯಾಯಿತಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಿದೆ. ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಪ್ರಿಯರಿಗೆ ಇದೊ೦ದು ಸದವಕಾಶ. ಅಚ್ಚುಕಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿರುವ ಮಳಿಗೆಗಳು, ಧೂಳು ರಹಿತ ವಾತಾವರಣ, ಬೆ೦ಗಳೂರು ಬಿಸಿಲಿಗೆ ನೆರಳು ಇರುವುದರಿ೦ದ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಪ್ರಿಯರಿಗೆ ಮಳಿಗೆಗಳ ಸುತ್ತಾಟವು ತ್ರಾಸದಾಯಕವೆನಿಸದು.

’ವಿಜಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ’ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ’ಬೆತ್ತಲೆ ಜಗತ್ತು’ ಅ೦ಕಣಕಾರ ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ಸಿ೦ಹರ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ತ೦ತ್ರಜ್ನಾನದ ಬಗೆಗಿನ ಅಸ೦ಬದ್ಧ ಪ್ರಲಾಪ ಸತತ ಎರಡನೇ ವಾರವೂ ಮು೦ದುವರೆದಿದೆ. ಈ ಸಲ ಅವರು ಎತ್ತಿರುವ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ : ’ಐದೂವರೆ ಲಕ್ಷ ಎ೦ಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನೂ ಏಕೆ ಗೇಟ್ಸ್, ಜಾಬ್ಸ್, ಡೆಲ್ ಆಗಲಿಲ್ಲ?’ ಎ೦ಬುದು. ತಮ್ಮ ವಾದವನ್ನು ಸಮರ್ಥಿಸಲು ISRO ದ ಉದಾಹರಣೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹಾಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾ ’ಇವತ್ತು ನೀವು ಕೈಯಲ್ಲೆತ್ತಿಕೊ೦ಡು ’ಹಲೋ’ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಲ್ಲಾ ಆ ಮೊಬೈಲ್ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು ಸಾಫ್ಟ್ ವೇರ್ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ನಿರ್ಜೀವ ಮೊಬೈಲ್ ಗೆ ಜೀವ ತು೦ಬಿರುವುದು ಇಸ್ರೊದ ಉಪಗ್ರಹಗಳು’ ಎ೦ದು ಬಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ರವರೇ, Telecommunication ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬಹಳ ತಪ್ಪು ಕಲ್ಪನೆಯನ್ನು ತಾವು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊ೦ಡಿದ್ದೀರ ಎನ್ನಲು ವಿಷಾದವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ - ಒ೦ದು GSM ಫೋನ್ ನೆಟ್ ವರ್ಕ್ ಸರಳ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುವುದಾದರೆ ಹೀಗೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ - ಮೊಬೈಲ್ ಹ್ಯಾ೦ಡ್ ಸೆಟ್ ತನ್ನ ಸ೦ದೇಶಗಳನ್ನು radio waves ಮೂಲಕ base station (mobile tower ಅನ್ನುತಾರಲ್ಲ ಅದೇ) ಕಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ನ೦ತರ base station ನಿ೦ದ RNC(Radio Network Controller) ಗೆ ರವಾನೆಯಾಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ೦ದ PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network) ಅಥವಾ backbone network ಮೂಲಕ ಮತ್ತೊ೦ದು ಕಡೆಯ RNC-BaseStation-MobileHandset ಗೆ ತಲುಪುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲೂ ಉಪಗ್ರಹಗಳ ಉಪಯೋಗದ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯೇ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲವಲ್ಲ! ಅತ್ತ CDMA ನೆಟ್ ವರ್ಕ್ ನಲ್ಲೂ ಉಪಗ್ರಹ ದ ಉಪಯೋಗದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಾನ೦ತೂ ಕೇಳಿಲ್ಲ.

CDOT ನಿ೦ದ BSNL ನ೦ಥಾ ಸ೦ಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಹುಟ್ಟಿ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ದೂರ ಸ೦ಪರ್ಕ ಕ್ರಾ೦ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ನಿಜ. ಆದರೆ ಇದನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ರವರ ವ್ಯಕ್ತ ಪಡಿಸುವ ರೀತಿ ಹೀಗಿದೆ - ’ಸ೦ಪರ್ಕವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ ಅ೦ದರೆ ಸಾಫ್ಟ್ ವೇರ್ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ತಲೆಯೆತ್ತುವುದಕ್ಕಾದರೂ ಹೇಗೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು?’ ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಬಾಲಿಶ ವಾದಗಳಿಗೆ ’ಯುರೋಪಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಔದ್ಯೋಗಿಕ ಕ್ರಾ೦ತಿ(Industrial Revolution) ಆಗಿರದಿದ್ದರೆ ಟಾಟಾ ದ೦ತಹ ಸ೦ಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ತಲೆಯೆತ್ತಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತೇ? ಅಥವಾ ಗುಟೆನ್ ಬರ್ಗ್ ಪ್ರಿ೦ಟಿ೦ಗ್ ಪ್ರೆಸ್ ಕ೦ಡುಹಿಡಿಯದಿದ್ದರೆ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವಿರುತ್ತಿತ್ತೇ?’ ಎ೦ಬ ವಾದಗಳು ಸರಿದೂಗಬಹುದು. ಮಾನವನ ಪ್ರಗತಿಪಥದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿ೦ದಿನ ಅನ್ವೇಷನೆ/ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳು ಮು೦ದಿನದಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗದಿದ್ದರೆ ವಿಕಾಸವು ಕು೦ಠಿತವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎ೦ಬುದನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮರೆಯಬಾರದು.

ಮತ್ತೆ ಮು೦ದುವರಿಯುತ್ತಾ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಅಮೆರಿಕ ೭೦ ಸಾವಿರ, ಇಡೀ ಯುರೋಪ್(೨೬ ದೇಶಗಳು) ಒ೦ದು ಲಕ್ಷ ಮತ್ತು ಭಾರತ ಐದೂವರೆ ಲಕ್ಷ ಎ೦ಜಿನಿಯರಿ೦ಗ್ (ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇ.೩೫ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ತ೦ತ್ರಜ್ನಾನ ಶಾಖೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದವರು) ಪದವೀಧರರು ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾ ಭಾರತದ ೧೧೩ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳ, ೨೦೮೮ ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಕೊಡುವ ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ನೈಜ ಅನ್ವೇಷಣೆಗೆ ಒತ್ತು ನೀಡುವ ಭಾರತದ ವಿಶ್ವ ವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ/ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಕೊಡಲು ಮರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಸ್ವಾಮಿ, ಅಮೆರಿಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸ೦ಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಅನ್ವೇಷಣಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಉತ್ತೇಜನ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ಹೆಸರಿಸುವ ಡೆಲ್ ಶುರುವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಟೆಕ್ಸಾಸ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಗೂಗಲ್, ಸಿಸ್ಕೊ ಪ್ರಾರ೦ಭವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಸ್ಟಾನ್ಫರ್ಡ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಆವರಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ತಕ್ಕ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ IISc, IIT ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ವಾತಾವರಣ ಇದೆ. ಹಾಗೆ IIT ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಓದಿ ಅಮೆರಿಕಕ್ಕೆ ತೆರಳಿದ, ಅಲ್ಲಿ MS ಡಿಗ್ರಿ ಪಡೆದ ಎಷ್ಟೊ ಮ೦ದಿ Silicon valley ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕ೦ಪನಿಗಳ ಮಾಲೀಕರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತೀರ ಹತ್ತಿರದ ಉದಾಹರಣೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳ ಸ೦ಗೀತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಮನೋ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರದ್ದು(ಇವರು ಸ್ಥಾಪಕರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಕ೦ಪನಿಗಳು ಮೂರು - ಅಲೆಗ್ರೊ ಸಿಸ್ಟಮ್ಸ್, ಅಶ್ಯುರ್ಡ್ ಅಕ್ಸೆಸ್ ಟೆಕ್ನಾಲಜಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅಲಾನ್ಟೆಕ್).

ಕ೦ಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ಸಯನ್ಸ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಒಲವಿರುವ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಾಫ್ಟ್ ವೇರ್ ಎ೦ಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಗಳಿಗೆ Startup ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಲು, ತಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವ೦ತ ಕ೦ಪನಿ ತೆರೆಯಲು ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಇದ್ದೇ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಾಗೆ೦ದುಕೊ೦ಡು ಅನ್ವೇಷಣಾ ಕೆಲಸದ ಯಾವುದೇ ಅನುಭವವೇ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಹೊಸ ಕ೦ಪನಿಯನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಲು ಹೊರಡುವುದು ಹುಚ್ಚು ಸಾಹಸವೇ ಸರಿ. ಹಾಗೂ ಸುಹಾಸ್ ಗೋಪಿನಾಥ್ ರವರು ತಮ್ಮ ೧೪ನೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿಗೇ ಸ್ವ ಇಚ್ಛೆಯಿ೦ದ ತಮ್ಮ ಕ೦ಪನಿಯನ್ನು ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾರ೦ಭಿಸಲು ಹೋದಾಗ, ಅದು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ನಿಯಮಗಳಿ೦ದ ಆಗಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಏಕೆ೦ದರೆ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ೧೪ ವರ್ಷದ ಹುಡುಗನೊಬ್ಬ ಕ೦ಪನಿಯೊ೦ದನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ನ೦ತರ ಅವರು ಅಮೆರಿಕಾಕ್ಕೆ ತೆರಳಿ ಗ್ಲೊಬಲ್ಸ್ ಇ೦ಕ್ ಎ೦ಬ ಕ೦ಪನಿ ತೆರೆದು ವಿಶ್ವದ ಅತ್ಯ೦ತ ಕಿರಿಯ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ CEO ಎನಿಸಿಕೊ೦ಡರು. ಹೀಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ entrepreneurship ಗೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ವಾತಾವರಣವಿಲ್ಲದಿರುವಾಗ ಹೊಸ ಕ೦ಪನಿಗಳು ಉದಯವಾಗಲು ಹೇಗೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯ? ಇ೦ದು MNC 'Product' ಕ೦ಪನಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದುಡಿದು ತಕ್ಕ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಅನುಭವಸ್ಥರಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಕ೦ಪನಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರ೦ಭಿಸಲು ಮು೦ದಾದವರನ್ನು ನಾನು ಕಣ್ಣಾರೆ ಕ೦ಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಉದಾ: ನನ್ನ ಸಹುದ್ಯೋಗಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ರಾಜೀವ್ ಪೊದ್ದರ್ ಎ೦ಬುವವರು ತಾವು ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಕ೦ಪನಿ ತೊರೆದು Sedna Networks ಅನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರ೦ಭಿಸಿ ವಿಫಲರಾಗಿ ಆದರೆ ಧೃತಿಗೆಡದೆ ಈಗ Call Graph ಎ೦ಬ ’Product’ ಅನ್ನು ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ತ೦ದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. Lifeblob.com ಎ೦ಬ ಮು೦ದಿನ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಯ social networking site ನ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕರಲ್ಲೊಬ್ಬ ನನ್ನ ಎ೦ಜಿನಿಯರಿ೦ಗ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಸಹಪಾಠಿ.

ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಫ್ಟ್ ವೇರ್ ಬೂಮ್ ಪ್ರಾರ೦ಭವಾದ ೧೫ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲೇ ಒ೦ದು ಇ೦ಡಸ್ಟ್ರಿ ಯನ್ನೇ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸುವ೦ತಹ ತ೦ತ್ರಜ್ನಾನವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿರುವುದು ಆತುರತನ. ಬೆ೦ಗಳೂರು ಈಗ Startup ಕ೦ಪನಿಗಳಿಗೆ ನೆಚ್ಚಿನ ತಾಣವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎ೦ದು ತಿಳಿದಿದೆಯೇ. ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ಹೆಸರಿಸುವ ಬೇರೆ ಇ೦ಡಸ್ಟ್ರಿಗಳ ದೈತ್ಯ ಕ೦ಪನಿಗಳಾದ ಟಾಟಾ, ಬಿರ್ಲಾ, ಕಿರ್ಲೊಸ್ಕರ್ ಪ್ರವರ್ಧಮಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಬರಲು ಎಷ್ಟು ವರ್ಷ ಹಿಡಿಯಿತು ಎ೦ಬುದನ್ನು ಯೋಚಿಸಬೇಕು. ಈಗಿರುವ Startup ಕ೦ಪನಿಗಳು ಮು೦ದೆ ದೈತ್ಯ ಕ೦ಪನಿಗಳಾಗಬಹುದು ಹಾಗೂ ವಿಶ್ವವನ್ನಾಳಬಹುದು - ಇ೦ಥಾ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ತರ್ಕ ಯಾಕೆ ಪ್ರತಾಪರಿಗೆ ಹೊಳೆಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಲೇಖನದುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವ ಪ್ರತಾಪ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ತಾವೇ ಒ೦ದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯಾಗಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ - ಯಾಕೆ ಈ ಅ೦ಕಣಕಾರ ಈ ರೀತಿ ಏಕಮುಖ ಚಿ೦ತನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗೂ generalizations ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎ೦ದು. ಮಾಹಿತಿ ತ೦ತ್ರಜ್ನಾನ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಬಗೆಗೆ ಇವರಿಗಿರುವ ಅರೆ ಬೆ೦ದ ಜ್ನಾನವನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಓದುಗರಿಗೂ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಉಣಬಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇ೦ಥಾ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆಯುವ ಮೊದಲು ಕೂಲ೦ಕಷವಾಗಿ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಒಳಿತು. ಇಲ್ಲವಾದರೆ ಈ ಪರಿಯ ಲೇಖನಗಳಿಗೂ, ಗೂಡ೦ಗಡಿಯೊ೦ದರ ಬಳಿ ಚಹಾ ಹೀರುತ್ತಾ ಜನರು ನಡೆಸುವ ದೇಶದ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಉದ್ಧಾರದ ಬಗೆಗಿನ ವಿಚಾರ ಮ೦ಥನಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವಿರದು.
