Small City to ‘MALL CITY’

Mangaloreans everywhere must be aware of the fact that this coastal city is experiencing a massive real estate boom and this in turn has changed the landscape and the economy of the entire region surrounding it. But for Bangalore newspaper to report in its daily edition it takes some thing special.

Above is the snapshot of the report which came in Bangalore Mirror (from Times of India group), a tabloid based in Bangalore, dated Monday, October 15, 2007, which describes how the city is fast becoming the ‘Mall City of India’. Already with 2 malls which are currently operating (Bharath Mall and Empire Mall), there are 6 more malls (Excel Mall, Mischief Mega Mall, Time Square, Pio Mall, Golden Harvest Mall, Mangalore Central Mall) coming up in the city. To give boost to the city’s infrastructure as many as 7 flyovers have been planned in and around the city with work already starting on 2 of them.

  1. Big Bazaar is coming up in UDupi as well. During my recent visit I found that NH 17 is at all time worst condition. May be you can write a post on that and draw attention....

  2. That is nice to here that Udupi is also getting Big Bazaar. Coastal Karnataka is experiencing reality boom in general.

Ya, most important cocern is the pathetic condition of the 2 national highways NH17 and NH48. NH17 is in bad condition so is NH48. Shiradi Ghat on NH48 is closed for another 6 months delaying the journey duration to Mangalore from Bangalore by another 2 hours by alternate routes such as Charmadi Ghat and Sampaje Ghat
